Have you ever spent an afternoon watching or gambling on college or pro football in a Vegas sports book? It can be a lot of fun if you arent a big gambler.

I work in a bookies over here. I made a tidy profit on the NFL this year but not had a coupon up all season betting on soccer which i know more about. Small stakes though just for a bit of fun

Got tickets for the Chargers season opener against the Texans. Any San Diego residents have any tips for a pre game sports bar. I'll be getting into the city around lunch time Monday and then driving up to L.A. Wednesday in time for the baseball so any ideas for the Tuesday day and evening would be welcome.

If you can, try to tailgate. Pregame tailgates are the one of the best parts of going to NFL games IMO.

How exactly does it work? I've heard a lot of talk about it but it's not a concept we have over here at all so I'm pretty unsure of what it actually entails. Would I need to take the truck? Just because I'm kinda set on leaving that at the hotel and getting a couple of beers at the game, it also makes it a lot easier to head straight for somewhere that I can buy her a cocktail as compensation for coming to the game with me. :toast:

I just got back from L.A. about a week ago. Took my nephew to Disneyland, California Adventure and Universal Studios. If I am picking one, as an adult, I would easily take Universal Studios. Also, invest in the express pass. It's more expensive for sure but it allows you to go to the front of the line for almost anything and it is the only way to go if you only have a limited time to invest spend at the park.

UCLA will be playing and that might be interesting to try and see. They now have a new HC and they have an excellent recruiting class coming in so it could also be fun to watch them. Just a suggestion you might consider.

You might also consider going to a Dodger Game. Chavez Ravine is not my favorite but it's pretty cool to sit in Dodger Stadium and just realize the history. Actually, now that I think about it, for the experience, it might be cooler to check out a Giants Game. Baseball can be boring to watch on TV but it's different when you go to the Ball Park. Have a few beers and a couple of Dogs, watch a game, it's pretty fun I think but I don't know, you may not like it.

If you have a chance, go check out Monterey/Carmel Peninsula. It's been years since I've been but it is beautiful.

Words to the wise. Took me my third trip to SF to remember a sweater, 'cause I just couldn't get my head around 60 degree high temperatures in August.

Are you going to wear a Cowboys jersey to the Chargers game just to represent?

Trucks aren't needed. Just any car, you can always go with your buddies or whatever. Typically only my dad and I tailgate but the experience of tailgating is better than actually tailgating IMO. You don't need any gigantic grills to bring only something that will cook your food. We have a small charcoal portable grill but I really like this grill: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B003B8867W?tag=ytk00153-20

Fully gas grill and folds up easily to put back in any car. Grill up some burgers, steak, chicken or whatever and always bring drinks (alcoholic or non-alcoholic). And the lawnchairs are what does it. Sit back and relax and grill out. Now, you could always bring some games to play while grilling or hanging out or even toss a football, but I usually just sit back and watch everyone while cooking up some burgers.

Yeah. It's really not that bad. It's just a good Twain quote about a city that's 10 degrees colder than it is 20 minutes in any other direction.

Our Scottish friends come and visit and walk around shirtless on their way home from the bars.

Were you able to get a tan, or just sunburn? Did you find a sports bar to watch the Cowboys or were you made to watch the locals?

Was pretty busy, flew into Vegas stayed two nights then onto Williams, Arizona for a night and a look at the Grand Canyon. Down to La Quinta, California to stay for 6 nights with the in-laws, played some golf, Joshua Tree, lazed about the pool, mountains and old frontier towns. Then down to San Diego for the Chargers game and the zoo before driving up to Santa Monica for the last 3 nights. Just did the California Adventure Park at Disney, also did the Warner Bros. tour and got my first swim in the Pacific.
