But at least hear me out, there is always a method to my madness! First, we cut the malcontent Greg Ellis and save 5 mill a year. Now here is where it gets real tricky.............K.C is in rebuild mode with their new coach Haley. Not alot of talent there at w.r........We trade Patrick Crayton AND Bobby Carpenter to K.C for Mike Vrabel and a 4th rounder. Heres where I need the cap guy.....Pretty sure when it comes to base salary AND bonus Crayton costs us around 3 mill this year. Vrabel is scheduled to make a little over 3 mill this season then become a free agent in 2010. We lose Ellis and his whining and we bring in a player the same age as Ellis but NONE of the problems that Ellis brings. Vrabel is a real pro's pro, knows the 3-4 like the back of his hand. As a pure 3-4 l.b he is better than Ellis in the 1st place. Great lockeroom guy who can really help coach up the younguns. Spencer would still start but Vrabel would see the field alot.

So far we are rid of Ellis and Carp and the salary that goes with it. We get a better player in Vrabel who is the same age and alot better lockeroom guy, coach on the field type. Oh, and a 4th rounder to boot. Always alot of tweener types in the draft that can excell in a 3-4 defense that can be had in the middle rounds. Im looking at a guy like Phillip Hunt. We need to draft someone THIS year to take Justin Rogers spot.

We then sign Torry Holt. 33 years old, younger than T.O. Runs precise routes, knows our offense better than anyone we already have. We start Holt and Williams and Austin gets worked into the offense as the number 3 man. In 2010 Austin and Holt battle it out for the right to start, loser takes the 3 slot. Yet another GREAT lockeroom guy and onfield coach if you will.

Onto the draft.......Chung in the second....we need a safety badly. Inside backer in the 3rd. We now have 3 4th round picks.......Nose tackle, Outside backer, backup center. In the 5th we get our wr. For years I have been saying we need a little waterbug type to work the middle, to be our Wes Welker. Deon Butler/Penn state. I think this guy can be this years Eddie Royal, plus the kid can return kicks.

We now end up with a L.B corp that looks like this.........Spencer...Brooking...James....Ware/ Vrabel...Drafted rook....Stewart.....Drafted rook.

We end up with a w.r corp that looks like this.......Williams...Holt...Austin....Butler.....Hurd.....drafted rook. Forget Stanback, he's a BUST. I believe these moves make us not only a better team on the field, but a better team in the lockeroom too. Vrabel and Holt KNOW how to win the RIGHT way. Gone are Ellis and his mouth, Crayton and his mouth, and Carp the BUST.

btw.....these moves actually make us younger, and pretty sure we also save cap in the long run too.

Just think about this scenario a minute........Its the playoffs, were in Newyork, its COLD, we need a big stop. Who do you want subbing in for Spencer, Ellis or Vrabel ?? I KNOW who im picking all day long. Vrabel by a COUNTRY MILE. Know why? He's been there and done that more times than anyone can count. Guy can bring some REAL knowledge of WINNING playoff football to this team. Great guy for our younger players to lean on.

By dealing Crayton it clears him out of Austins way. I believe we need Austins speed on the field. By signing Holt its a hedge against Austins success or failure as a starter. This way Austin sees the field ALOT as our number 3 guy but isnt prematurely thrust into a starters role. Plus he learns the skill of route running from one of the best in Holt. Talking of speed.......I'd be willing to bet that at 33 Holt is still much faster than Crayton. AND........This also opens up a spot for a nice young drafted W.R like Butler.

How does trading for Vrabel make us younger? I agree on the cutting Ellis part and possibly signing Holt.

Vrabel himself doesnt make us younger as he is the same age as Ellis. Its the cumulative effect we get by dumping Ellis...Carpenter...Crayton. This now opens up room for 2 linebackers and one or 2 W.r's drafted this year. Oh, and Holt is younger then Owens.

See, I have a STRONG feeling we are going to work a deal for Holt. Now follow along........The front office seems pretty high On Austin, Romo does too. Last training camp Romo had Austin pegged as a guy he thought would make a big leap. If we bring in Holt Crayton needs to be sent packing to clear the way for Austin. If we keep Crayton after signing Holt that means Austin is the number 4 man getting no field time. Cant have THAT....we need his speed to help stretch the field. Signing Holt means shipping out Crayton IMO, fits right in to the scenario I laid out in the original post....

Holt can do for us what Terry Glenn did for us in the past. He is a true craftsman at the w.r position. He can help greatly to blunt the learning curve that Austin, and my drafted rookie wideout Deon Butler will surely have.

The problem being Crayton's bonus aclleration into the CAP and the team may not be willing to trade him away as that coupled with the Holt signing will make us WR old quickly but also kill the CAP for this year.
We still need a lot of room to get something done with Ware this season on the CAP.

I stopped doing that a long time ago, when I found out that none of my wishes would come true.

...........Yeah, I really dont know the cap implications of these moves. BUT....Not worried about the age thing. Or SPEED. These moves make us Younger and faster, AS A WHOLE then how we began the year last season. This year we could go something like this..........Williams,.... Holt "Younger than Owens and faster than Crayton" .......Austin, young and fast......and Deon Butler....Rookie Speed burner with sub 4.4 speed . Those would be our top 4 wideouts. In the 5 and 6 slot we have Hurd "Possible solid possesion guy" and another rook w.r. .

Carp is still very young and Crayton isn't old experience wise. He's getting close to 30 age wise. Except for him running his mouth I don't have much of a problem with Crayton.

Plus why would KC trade for Vrabel then turn around and trade him again? Pioli obviously wanted him so I can't see him trading him so quickly.

.....I understand that too, about not wanting to trade Vrabel after just picking him up. They would have to be enticed into it. They are young and rebuilding, really lacking at W.R and L.b......this way they get a SOLID w.r in Crayton, and a former 1st rounder in Carp that comes from another 3-4 team. Plus, in all honesty....If you were Vrabel, where would you wanna play the last couple years of your career....In K.C winning 3-4 games a year, or in Dallas where you have a chance to win a blinkie the last couple years of your career? Vrabel doesnt do alot for K.C in the long run. By the time they have a team that can truly compete for much of anything he will be retired.

Vrabel is the exact same age as Ellis, but when it comes to being a complete LINEBACKER he is far and away better than Ellis in the opinion of just about anyone. He just is. Ellis suxx against the run, cant get to the corner. Ellis is an o.k 4-3 end playing out of position at L.B. Plus all he does is CRY. Vrabel meanwhile has PROVEN to be a BIG GAME player,....a WINNER. Off the charts football IQ. Always in position. Very rugged. You go ahead and Start Spencer then you sub in Vrabel in different packages. Sweet move all the way around and 2 mill a year cheaper than Ellis to boot.

I don't doubt Vrabel would be a better leader because let's face Ellis hasn't been one in years if ever. I still go back to why would KC trade a player the targeted in a trade just to trade him again?

I give you credit for the effort but I just can't see a way KC would even consider a trade like this.

I know FOR SURE he sacked him 3 times in that game and if memory serves the goof fumbled all three times. If not all three then it was for sure twice. Actually what I think happened was he did fumble all three times with the pats recovering 2 and the skins recovering 1.

Actually the Pats recovered ALL THREE....
"The Patriots’ 52-7 victory over the Commanders was, not surprisingly, as dominating as the final score implies. And no player better embodied that dominance than linebacker Mike Vrabel, who had one of the games of his life with 13 tackles, three strip sacks (all recovered by the Patriots), and a touchdown reception for good measure. We’ll start our examination of the game with a look at Vrabel.
Now on to the tape …
VRABEL’S TOUCHDOWN: As we detailed in Sunday’s Herald, the Patriots have been particularly deadly on the goal line with playaction passes. Since the goal of any defense that close to the end zone is stopping the run, it creates opportunities for receivers who can get off the line quickly and cleanly. Even with Junior Seau and Heath Evans lined up at running back, the Commanders still had to respect the play fake to Evans.
Helping matters is that Vrabel came in motion before the snap, isolating on linebacker Marcus Washington, who bit — along with the other 10 defenders on the field — on Tom Brady’s play fake. Washington’s half step toward the line was all Vrabel needed to shoot past cleanly and he was wide open for his 10th career touchdown reception.
VRABEL STRIP SACK No. 1: Undersized fullback Mike Sellers and running back Clinton Portis were simply no match for Vrabel coming off the left side all day. On Vrabel’s first sack, he beat Sellers with pure power, chucking him aside to open an outside lane towards quarterback Jason Campbell, while using his speed to slice inside of Portis, splitting the two backs. The play would not have been possible, however, without Rosevelt Colvin pressuring Campbell from the right side, bull rushing right tackle Todd Wade directly into the pocket. Had Campbell been able to step up, Vrabel would have been too wide on the play. But Colvin forced Campbel to step back, right into the onrushing Vrabel’s path.
VRABEL STRIP SACK No. 2: Once again, Vrabel toyed with the Sellers-Portis combo. Sellers appeared to be expecting a power move off the line, and Vrabel used that to his advantage, blowing past him with pure speed and then lowering his shoulder into Portis. Football coaches speak all the time about leverage, and this was a perfect example. Despite standing a full five inches taller than Portis, Vrabel was able to get his shoulders into the back’s midsection, driving under him to tap the ball from Campbell’s hands, where it was once again recovered by Ty Warren. It was an insanely athletic play, requiring deft hand-eye coordination.
VRABEL STRIP SACK No. 3: One play after lining up on the right side and watching Colvin string out a handoff to Portis in true Vrabel style, the two flipped back to their normal positions. Vrabel found himself one on one with Wade, and beat him with a pass rushing move that can best be described as rope-a-dope. When Vrabel met Wade at the edge, he stopped in his tracks. Wade then straightened up as well, believing he could hand Vrabel off to Portis on the outside. However, because Vrabel had stopped, and because fellow linebacker Junior Seau was rushing up the middle, both Portis and Wade tried to slow Seau (both failed, by the way). After a millisecond’s hesitation, Vrabel sprinted around the edge with an unimpeded front side shot on Campbell, who was preoccupied with Seau diving at his feet.
And then, in a classic case of being in the right place at the right time, Colvin scooped the ball up after having his back to the play to score the touchdown.
So to recount, that was three strip-sacks by Vrabel, and three unique pass rushing moves to get there. He showcased his power, speed, and intelligence in a game that the Pro Bowl voters should watch extra closely."...........................Ellis compared to Vrabel? Pffffft, not even close.
