...ESPN Classic is running some old games of ND/Michigan this afternoon and they are showing the '99 game.

I just flipped by the channel and heard Musberger and Dan Fouts talking and they were showing Brady on the sidelines and Henson in the game at QB. The first thing I heard Fouts say was..."You can see why Lloyd Carr is hesitant to name Brady the starter. Drew Henson is special!"

I just laughed to myself and thought it's funny how things turned out for those two QBs. Every football pundit in America would have bet their house that it would have been Henson who ended up by this time with 3 Rings and not Brady. In reality Brady was the far superior player but everyone bought into the Henson hype despite what the results were on the field. It reminds me of the old story of The Emporer's New Clothes. :D

Per DMN blog:

Henson still looking for new home...

Drew Henson worked out for the Panthers on Tuesday and he's scheduled to be in Miami for a workout this Tuesday.

Dolphins coach Nick Saban tried to recruit Henson when he was at Michigan State. Miami's backups are Joey Harrington and former Arkansas State great Cleo Lemon.

This is living proof that success in college does not equal success in the pros, especially when you take a detour to baseball in between.

I wish Henson luck, but he has more money than we do from doing nothing for several professional sports teams. I won't shed a tear for him.

If he never quit football, then maybe what the pundits said would have mattered. He was quite good in college, but its all quite irrelevant now that he cant get a job in the NFL.

I haven't totally written him off yet..

Neither have I, although all signs say I should. I really thought somebody would've snagged this guy by now. He did some things in Europe that were a little above the NFLE caliber. Oh well. I do hope he plays somewhere cause I'd like to see all the hype come to fruition.

I am a little biased but I think we cut the wrong Drew. The one we kept is not taking us anywhere. At least the other one had "some" potential.

What was it that Tom Jackson asked Michael Irvin again?

I'm sorry, but I just never bought in to the Henson hype. I never saw anything. I only heard a lot about him.

If Henson gets another chance with a Coach with a different approach to the mental side of the game he might do well. I truly thought that he and Romo would have a close camp battle this year but Parcells seemed to have his mind made up before camp ever started.

If he never catches on in the NFL it will be hard to say what will have lead to his downfall as a quarterback. The three year layoff might have ruined him for life or just coming back and not being prepared to deal with Parcells' "motivational techniques" might have done him in.

Honestly, he would have been best served to stay with the Texans. I could see a guy like Gary Kubiak having some success with Henson. Besides, David Carr has already lost the trust of the fans over there.

Hey make no mistake about it...Henson was special in college. He was outstanding and had more raw talent than any QB that had gone to U of Mich, this is what Mich coaches said not me. Brady was the outbound Sr and Henson was the future and frankly, Brady and Henson were pretty close in college. Brady had more savy and seasoned game smarts so he was better able to keep drives alive than Drew but Henson had the cannon arm and threw precision passes. Trust me, I watched every Mich game.
Don't be decieved by hindsight....Henson was an outstanding college QB who probably would've been picked over Vick had he came out in the NFL draft instead of going to baseball.
Also, we'll never know whether it was baseball that derailed Drew's football career or if it was that he just couldn't play at the NFL level. I don't think you can make that call.

I'm sad it didn't work out for him and for us but I'm glad that Romo developed into a good Qb.

I'm sad it didn't work out here with Henson too. While I have high hopes for Romo and am one who'd like to see him playing/starting sooner than later, I won't qualify him as any 'good' until he actually plays a fair amount of real games with success.

I have no use for a QB who can't even handle a little pressure from his coach.

If Henson washed out because Parcells is a Big Meanie, then we made the right decision. Personally I think there is a lot more to it than that, and the fact that he is still out there on the streets while 8 other teams only have 2 QBs on the roster and several others are carrying 3rd QBs no one has ever heard of speaks volumes.
