Here’s what we know so far in NFL
Now, NFL fanatics, what did we learn from Week One?
Well, that the New England Patriots can win every game as long as they have Tom Brady; that the hype surrounding the Houston Texans may not be warranted; that Jay Cutler is a crybaby while Aaron Rodgers is not; that the Commanders can’t score with Jason Campbell at quarterback and that Atlanta may actually put together two good years in a row.
Of course, lessons in Week One often are worthless, as they can be in Weeks Two and Three as well. But we’ll take a stab and see if we can pick up a few things learned.
Thus, here are this week’s Lucky Seven:
BRONCOS 23, BROWNS 14
Welcome to the Belichick Tree Bowl. The hated Eric Mangini against the brash, in-over-his-head Josh McDaniels in the coaching matchup. Denver got oh, so lucky in the Tip Game against . The Bengals, but they might not need much luck to win this one, especially since it’s at Mile High. A 2-0 start for McDaniels? Don’t worry, it will catch up to him.
INDIANAPOLIS 17, MIAMI 16
Not a big believer in the Dolphins, who will take a step back this season as they don’t have that soft schedule to rely on. Big believer in Peyton Manning, despite his dependence on Reggie Wayne. At home they should be good defensively, but offensively Chad Pennington will struggle to get them going. Should be another good Monday nighter, though.
SAINTS 31, EAGLES 24
No Donovan McNabb or Michael Vick for Philly. Yeah, New Orleans isn’t as good out of the SuperDome, and the Eagles are a good defensive team as they helped make Jake Del but let’s compare quarterbacks: Drew Brees against a possible Kevin Kolb
Jeff Garcia combo. On the road it’ll won’t be a breeze, but we’ll go with Brees.
COWBOYS 27, GIANTS 10
It’s the grand regular season opening of Jerry Jones’ palace. Dallas always plays well early in the season, but this year, something just tells me it’s no fluke. The Cowboys are for real and will win the NFC East, and a victory Sunday night will show you a couple of reasons why. Maybe more.
STEELERS 16, BEARS 9
After what you saw last week, who would you rather have quarterbacking your team, Cutler or Ben Roethlisberger? Go with Big Ben, especially since Da Bears, who haven’t been that good defensively the last couple of years, are minus Brian Urlacher for the season. Ouch – which is what the players will be saying after the hitting in this one.
JAGS 24, CARDINALS 17
Too bad the Jacksonville fans can’t see this one on the tube. Kurt Warner won’t have the same year he did last year, and neither will Arizona, a bad road team.
PATRIOTS 27, JETS 21
And dare we say it may not be that close? Yes, the Jets are a tempting pick here, but rookie QBs like Mark Sanchez have to carry it from week to week. Yes, the Patriots defense is down ... but not out. And New England hasn’t lost in the Meadowlands in nine years (September of 2000), while Brady is 12-2 overall against them. Go with the trend and pay no attention to Not-So-Sexy Rexy.
LAST WEEK: 6-1.
SEASON: 6-1.
