It’s time to set the record straight with the Dallas Cowboys and their defense.
Despite the prevailing narrative that the Cowboys play a Tampa 2-style defense, because of defensive coordinator Rod Marinelli’s roots as defensive line coach in Tampa on those great Buccaneer defenses in the late 1990s and early 2000s, the Cowboys actually play a strong majority of their defensive snaps with a single-high safety in the middle of the field. The reason for this lies not in something specific it provides against the pass, but rather against the run.
