Here are the FA backs for next year. How would you handle the position?

I would love to see the Cowboys take a good young back in the draft, but there are plenty of backs here young enough that could be signed at low cost and make a great tandem for next season.

Barkley and Josh Jacobs are FA's but I am going to assume they are either resigned or they are too expensive.

Kareem Hunt
Jamaal Williams
Rashad Penny
Tony Pollard
Deonte Foreman
Derrell Henderson
David Montgomery
Damien Harris
Alexander Mattison
James Robinson
Miles Sanders

There are other backs, but to me these are the best of them. I actually really like the combination of the power back and the big play back. I just dont like Zeke in that roll for Dallas/Jerry and for 18 million

For the Power back I would either go with Jamaal Williams or Deonte Foreman. I would team one of those with either Pollard or Alexander Mattison.

If Pollard wants too much give me Mattison. Jamaal Williams and Mattison or Deonte Foreman and Pollard. Would love either one of those. Sign them to a 2 year deal and also draft a kid in the 3rd round to round out the RB room. Time to play and have 3 backs on gameday.

I would like Tony Pollard re-signed he is a Top big play RB, and the Cowboys already have him. Instead of chasing Beckham, Stephen should take care of the Playmaker currently on the offense already.

I do like some of these RBs, and with the OL the Cowboys have many of them should be successful:
1a) Donta Foreman
1b) Damien Harris
1c) Alex Mattison

Of course, we know the draft is likely best, but these guys paired with TP are low tread , low cost RBs.

I’d sign Pollard if he gets a reasonable deal and draft another Pollard type in the middle rounds.

I know people saying they don’t want to “pay” Pollard but it’s not like he’s going to command Zeke money. All teams know those big RB contracts are a mistake. Pollard should come in at less than half of what Zeke got.

I believe we should be able to get Polard at something like 4 years, 32-36 million. Aaron Jones and Joe Mixon signed 4/48 deals and they had a large body of work as the #1 back.

4 years is too much. 8 million per year is too much for my blood. Dont need to pay back that kind of money. You could probably sign Mattison for 3 million per year and Jamaal Williams for 4 million per year. 2 year contracts.

I would give Pollard 6 million, but thats the most.

Who is the college stud this year at running back, any thoroughbreds? Take him round 1.

If Damien Pierce hasn’t proven it, we can get a workhorse back well into the third day of the draft. Don’t spend to re-sign Pollard whose market value will be too high. Cut Zeke unless he takes a massive pay cut. Spend money elsewhere.

I would first offer:
  • Zeke: 3 yrs 18m (he also has 11.6m of dead money on top of that)
  • Pollard 3 yrs 22m
If one accepts, I’d draft a complimentary back to fill the other players role in the 2nd-4th round. If neither accepts I’d probably look at a guy like Melvin Gordon or Jamaal Williams to pair with an early rookie (maybe 2nd round).

The running back position is not a position you should break the bank for. They are too easy to replace. As long as you're back up running back is faster and more elusive than the starter they will work as a good tandem. So we could actually have Jamaal Williams and JaQuan Hardy as a well functioning tandem. In other words, I don't really care, just give me two guys that run hard.

Alexander Mattison is super slow. He ran a 4.67 40 time at the Combine back in 2019. He's got to be slower by now. Plus, his ypc average has only been 3.7 the past 2 seasons, and he's not even 6 foot tall.

Let's not pick another team's trash. Hard pass.
