Here are the FA backs for next year. How would you handle the position?

If how you'd handle the position is by picking through other teams' (or even your own team's) veteran leftovers, you're simply lost.

Draft Bijan Robinson if he's still on the board in the first round. You have an elite franchise RB for the next 5 years that has the power of Zeke, the speed of Pollard and the hands equal to any WR on the roster. If he's off the board then you look at Zach Charbonet from UCLA in the 2nd round.
Anyone that knows the history of this team knows that without a great RB this team goes nowhere.

EXACTLY what I was thinking.

Heresy!

I feel like ... like reporting you to the mods except they hate me and for good reason though it is still unfair to me, a decent chap with good airs and good grammar.

HERESY because RBs are a dime a 12 gross.
You do not burn a vaunted draft pick for an RB unless it is a Bo or Dorsett or Barkley.

No, knaves, save our draft picks for a couple of refrigerators on our defencive front wall.

The running back position is not a position you should break the bank for. They are too easy to replace. As long as you're back up running back is faster and more elusive than the starter they will work as a good tandem. So we could actually have Jamaal Williams and JaQuan Hardy as a well functioning tandem. In other words, I don't really care, just give me two guys that run hard.

JaQuan needs a chance to showcase himself!

I would love to see the Cowboys take a good young back in the draft, but there are plenty of backs here young enough that could be signed at low cost and make a great tandem for next season.

Barkley and Josh Jacobs are FA's but I am going to assume they are either resigned or they are too expensive.

Kareem Hunt
Jamaal Williams
Rashad Penny
Tony Pollard
Deonte Foreman
Derrell Henderson
David Montgomery
Damien Harris
Alexander Mattison
James Robinson
Miles Sanders

There are other backs, but to me these are the best of them. I actually really like the combination of the power back and the big play back. I just dont like Zeke in that roll for Dallas/Jerry and for 18 million

For the Power back I would either go with Jamaal Williams or Deonte Foreman. I would team one of those with either Pollard or Alexander Mattison.

If Pollard wants too much give me Mattison. Jamaal Williams and Mattison or Deonte Foreman and Pollard. Would love either one of those. Sign them to a 2 year deal and also draft a kid in the 3rd round to round out the RB room. Time to play and have 3 backs on gameday.
jerry will keep zeke, and maybe keep pollard if he will sign cheap, and maybe draft a rb, or pick up a udfa.
Thats what I see happening.

Keep Zeke, and if you can’t sign Pollard, let Pollard test FA, draft a RB.

Renegotiate Zeke contract is a must though. Even to retain Pollard or not.

So kick more money down the road in the form of both Zeke and Dak? That is not good business sense.

Ultimately it's not our decision but that said, in this hypothetical Zeke has to be traded/released as his contract is a liability for what he is now. As for Pollard, Dallas needs to avoid locking themselves into a high dollar RB contract like they did with Zeke so it comes down to what Pollard wants in terms of his contract. If Dallas is wise they avoid a bidding war and look to re-sign Pollard now (if possible) and then go into the draft looking to add a complimentary RB.

4 years is too much. 8 million per year is too much for my blood. Dont need to pay back that kind of money. You could probably sign Mattison for 3 million per year and Jamaal Williams for 4 million per year. 2 year contracts.

I would give Pollard 6 million, but thats the most.

Normally I agree with that, however, in his whole career he's only accumulated 398 rushes in total which is probably less than any RB1 has done in the last two years. There's possible of wear left.

There's also the consideration that we can sign him to a heavy signing bonus contract and spread away from the last of the 'CAP Hell(ish)' years.

The problem is Jerry's love for Zeke and apparent not wanting to do anything that may upset him.

If I am Pollard there is no way I am staying here. Jerry and even the RB coach has been nothing but downgrade his abilities and keep him on the sidelines. Pollard should be getting hailed as one of the best weapons in the NFL.

Penney and a mid rounder.

Bye Zeke.

sign a cheap veteran. draft one. cut zeke. let Pollard walk unless its reasonable. some team may get enamoured with him and over pay.

I would be against franchising Pollard. That would cost us some 12 million per year. Not looking to make the same mistake as we made with Zeke.
Agreed. Make a fair offer to him and if he rejects it than wish him well and draft his replacement. Along with a FA. We have to learn from the mistake of Caving into Zeke

Some very good RB's coming out in this draft. I would never give a RB a 2nd contract unless he was the centerpiece of my team.

How would you handle the position?
I'm not changing my tune. Sticking with my answer of cutting Zeke and signing a FA cheap or drafting a RB in the 3rd round next April.

My preference would be get a FA who fits the scheme and use the draft pick at a position of need.
