Patrick Peterson denies allegations

3/31/2011 6:36:06 PM

Jim Kleinpeter of the New Orleans Times Picayune reports former LSU cornerback Patrick Peterson denied having any association or relationship with trainer Willie Lyles, who is alleged to have shopped the All-American's services to Texas A&M during his recruitment four years ago.

Former Texas A&M assistant coach Van Malone was quoted in a story on ESPN.com that Lyles, who is being investigated by the NCAA after receiving $25,000 from Oregon, told him Peterson could be had for $80,000.

"I have never had any type of relationship with Willie Lyles and he had no influence on my decision to attend LSU, or any other school for that matter," Peterson said in a statement released through LSU sports information. "He had no involvement with my recruiting process and I resent the fact that my name has come up in these allegations. I chose LSU because it's a great school with a great football program. I never received nor was I offered anything to go to LSU and anyone saying otherwise is being dishonest."

Your article just said he went to A&M for a visit. Peterson and his father admitted that. They are denying any real connection with Lyles or asking for money.

Try this.

I'm not on the Peterson bandwagon like some are, but this wouldnt make any difference to me even if it were true.

Probably 90% of the super blue chip prospects are getting something. I dont have a problem with it.

It wouldn't make any difference to anyone. It's not like pro scouts don't know the top players get paid to play.

I know a guy who played college basketball in the 70's he said that he got a new car and money for the parents so it's been going on forever. He was a 10-15 minute a game big man not the big man on campus.

Regardless of whether it's true or not, wouldn't be suprirsing to me to see Peterson fall to #6. Even if he's one of the Top 3 players, no team has ever drafted a CB higher than 3rd in the draft. I think both QBs, Dareus and Miller go in the top 5. Then you just need one more Top 5 team to take someone else, and none of the Top 5 teams have CB as their most pressing need. Personally I think the Cardinals at #5 are going to take a pass rusher, either Miller or Quinn. They want to be a pressure defense, they're sorely lacking outside pass rushers and both Quinn and Miller provide good value.
