Here is the one thing that has me flummoxed about Jerry

I still can't figure out what Jerry's motivation was in acquiring Lance.? They clearly were fine with Rush as the backup as he did his job in 2022 filling in for a few games

So why acquire him? He didn't even let McCarthy know what he was doing. And while a fourth round pick isn't that valuable, it's still a decent enough pick to give up.

So what was the plan? You were just looking for a better backup? Or were you thinking you were giving yourself a safety net in case Dak scuffled?
I havent read all responses yet...But here is my answer. Jerry will forever go searching for a guy that could possibly make Jerry look like a genius eventually. He wants to hear "WOW a brilliant move by Jerry Jones". He craves that type of attention. It can be with first time head coaches, undrafted QBs, 4th rounder QB, an early draft pick on an injured LB, or a bust QB from another team. This is very important to Jerry. He thrives on the hope that he will at some point look like a brilliant football guy.

To trade a 4th for what is essentially a 1 year backup is silly though.
Maybe, but it was unknown how things would go with Dak this year, and there could be decisions on Dak to make next year, and there will be QB injuries around the league next year as well, so whether next in line in Dallas or somewhere else in a trade he could reap benefits for the Cowboys. A 4th rounder isn't that big a gamble for the kind of prospect he was coming our of college.

Jerry thought Mike McCarthy could develop him. He worked with Favre, Rodgers and Dak

Jerry thought he had the pedigree to develop Lance as well
Yet he didn't even consult with Mike before making the move.

I think Jerry just wanted to flex on everyone and show he didn't have to check with anybody before making a flashy move.

Plus of course, we had a second round grade on the player, and we are such amazing talent evaluators. Like when we spent a first on Mazi Smith.

Jerry did it to relive past glory from the Herschel Walker trade.

Or the high first round grades on Paxton Lynch and Connor Cook.
