The Beatles are getting the big-screen biopic treatment in not just one film, but a Fab Four of movies that will give each band member their own spotlight — all of which are to be directed by Sam Mendes.

For the first time, the Beatles, long among the stingiest rights granters, are giving full life and music rights to a movie project. Sony Pictures announced Monday a deal that may dwarf all music biopics that have come before it, with the stories of Paul McCartney, John Lennon, George Harrison and Ringo Starr spread out over a quartet of films.

I'm not a huge Beatles fan but always recognized their greatness.
I'll definitely watch this.

Ed Sullivan -- It was 61 Years ago Today !

I remember watching from the living room with my family there also.

On Feb. 9, 1964, the Beatles made their first live American television appearance on “The Ed Sullivan Show,” broadcast from New York on CBS. The quartet played five songs, including “She Loves You” and “I Want to Hold Your Hand,” to a crowd of screaming teenagers in person and more than 70 million viewers across the country.

Yep watched this with my parents as well in the living room. I was only 7 so had no idea what my parents were talking about the Beatles, I expected bugs!

My parents no interest in Elvis or Rock'n'Roll.

It was my interest in watching the show, or I'd run away from home if I wasn't allowed to that made viewing it possible.

My mom and her PTA group's byline was "Don't get so worked up about The Beatles... they're just a "Fad." :)

Needless to say, I had the Last Laugh on that one!!

This always ruffles feathers, but I think they're BY FAR the most overrated band, ever. I don't hate them, but there's nothing special about their music to me.

Sir Ringo Starr sat down with AP entertainment journalist Liam McEwan to reflect on a milestone year: celebrating his 85th birthday next July 7, 35 years of the All-Starr Band and a recent Grammy win ("I'd like a couple more if you don't mind," he says). He shared stories from his early days as a hopeful dreamer, the musical evolution of The Beatles, and his mindset when behind a drum kit ("I'm in a blackout!"). Starr also opened up about his journey practicing transcendental meditation, photography and the deep bond he still shares with his bandmates.

Lol. I got lambasted here when I posted this same sentiment about 20 years ago.

I have softened on them over the years, as my perspective on history and the world has changed. An old timer gave me something to think about when he was talking about being of age in the time they were producing music. He got me to think about what it might have been like to hear it fresh, without the influence of having heard and liked the countless songs that came in the aftermath which were directly influenced by what the Beatles did.

I grew up listening to them, and many other bands that tried to emulate them or some form of their music.

Though a little before my time, but I have 3 older brothers, so heard mostly about them, from my brothers as they played their music.
Yes, it was something new at the time, and they changed a lot about music going forward at the time. A time of many culture changes going on (hey, they could teach Jerry a few things. (LOL).
So yes, many will say how great they were based on that and form what they are told.

I had heard many times over the years about them being overrated, and I can understand that. Mostly from people I knew that were into the alternative rock music as it was getting popular.

I don't purposely play the Beatles music but will listen to a song when is is being played as I drive on the classic vinyl channel on Sirius XM. I do not tune into the Beatles channel on it though very often.

So I think your last line, many base them on the influence they had.
Just like Black Sabbath influenced the heavy metal bands, along with a few other groups. Late 60's to early 80's was the most influential time of music. As many genre's came about and / or grew from there.
