Our pass rush seems to have improved a bit.
I actually saw touches and sacks by our defensive front.
Something on which to build!

Anybody see that improvement too?

Ware is becoming a monster, kudos to the kid.
Liked Miles Austin's intensity. Just yesterday I thought he wasn't up to par. Good job, kid.

On to the playoffs!
On to the future!!

Yes! And there was also an improvement in DB's playing the ball..if not much in actually holding on.

On to the playoffs!

We still prove to have the most inept defensive coordinator out there.

That blitz of Brady James right up the middle against a 5 man line, essentially giving each OL a 1 on 1 with a defender summed it up.

I really didn't see much of an improvement in the pass rush. The sack totals are deceiving because:

1. Detroit throws a ton.

2. Detroit's O-Line is banged up and blows

3. Detroit utilizes a lot of 5 and 7 step drop.

4. At least 3 of the sacks were coverage sacks.

5. The pass rush was non-existent in the second half, especially on 3rd downs.

It's not all of the pass rushes fault though. Bradie James got picked on all game long and when your LB is having issues with that, it just makes it much more difficult to consistently get a pass rush. The one thing I did get out of it was that there was no reason why we shouldn't have been stunting and zone blitzing earlier this year. Obviously you don't want to stunt and zone blitz too much since it kills your run defense and QB contain, but on obvious passing downs we had some better success with stunting and zone blitzing because it actually made things difficult for the Lions O-Line.

I agree with you on Bradie, Rich. It seems the opposing teams know that all they have to do is run clear-out routes to open up the middle and then get James in coverage in space. It's an instant mismatch and sickeningly easy for them to run.

Detroit's O-line is so crappy that we should have had even more success against them. There were too many plays when grandpa kitna had ALL DAY to throw the ball. Against this crappy line, that is unacceptable.

A positive outlook is all we have and for one more week we start with a clean slate. The other positive note is that we are still healthy. There must be a silver lining someplace??
