We looked bad last night (no way around it - our first team O and D were not very impressive). San Diego, however, is one of the AFC favorites to go to the Super Bowl. They are a good team. They pushed us around on offense and defense for the entire first half.
Yet, somehow, when the dust settled we were tied 7 to 7. I know we had no running game, Romo sucked (SD ran all kind of blitzes and stunts and we were all over the place) and our defense got run over. We took a beating from a very good team and we we were not only standing after getting punched in the face again and again, we were standing toe to toe.
Maybe I'm the eternal optimist, but we couldn't have played worse and we still managed to play them to a tie. They held the ball almost the entire first half and outgained us dramatically. But we still managed to prevent them from scoring more than 7 points and put 7 points on the board ourselves.
We have a ton of reason to be unhappy about our play - but we were still right there in the end. Nice to know that we have no where to go from here but up. I guess San Diego should keep beating their chests all over the field - they man handled us all the way to a tie in the first half and a loss in the game (I know its only preseason, but they were the ones acting like they had won the Big Game).
It was ugly, but it was far from hopeless. Imagine what would have happened in that game if we had even played well, let alone great. We would have torn them apart (and they are an excellent team). All I'm saying is we aren't always going to play our best, but at the end of the day, we still found a way to take their shots and come out even. Sounds like a victory to me.
