We looked bad last night (no way around it - our first team O and D were not very impressive). San Diego, however, is one of the AFC favorites to go to the Super Bowl. They are a good team. They pushed us around on offense and defense for the entire first half.

Yet, somehow, when the dust settled we were tied 7 to 7. I know we had no running game, Romo sucked (SD ran all kind of blitzes and stunts and we were all over the place) and our defense got run over. We took a beating from a very good team and we we were not only standing after getting punched in the face again and again, we were standing toe to toe.

Maybe I'm the eternal optimist, but we couldn't have played worse and we still managed to play them to a tie. They held the ball almost the entire first half and outgained us dramatically. But we still managed to prevent them from scoring more than 7 points and put 7 points on the board ourselves.

We have a ton of reason to be unhappy about our play - but we were still right there in the end. Nice to know that we have no where to go from here but up. I guess San Diego should keep beating their chests all over the field - they man handled us all the way to a tie in the first half and a loss in the game (I know its only preseason, but they were the ones acting like they had won the Big Game).

It was ugly, but it was far from hopeless. Imagine what would have happened in that game if we had even played well, let alone great. We would have torn them apart (and they are an excellent team). All I'm saying is we aren't always going to play our best, but at the end of the day, we still found a way to take their shots and come out even. Sounds like a victory to me.

Not really.

Jets, Pats, Colts and Ravens are all better.

But I still see your point.

But it's still PRESEASON.

I dont think the Jets or Pats are as good as San Diego, even though the Jets did pull the upset in the playoffs...I think had they played that game 5 times, SD probably wins 3 or 4.

Also dont think the Ravens are better than them. Colts, perhaps. But its close.

Takeaways at key times, short fields, red zone success.

If you're one who complained about the lack of those things last season, you can't complain much about this game.

Yeah, despite all of the problems, I was proud of the way they stood in there and scrapped. The way I look at can be summed up in that 4th and 4 play that the Chargers converted to a 1st down: Am I upset that our RFA Safety from Toledo allowed All-pro Mr. Rivers complete a pass to All-pro Mr. Gates? Hell, no.

But, the coaches really need to figure out what the problem is, and how to get a good performance out of these guys on 9/12. If they're not working hard enough, work 'em harder. If there too exhausted from the schedule, give 'em a break. If they're spending too much time on the practice field, and not enough time watching film, schedule some meetings. Take a look at what you're doing and adjust the plan, Wade. I know its hard. I know it leaves you open to criticism. But trust yourself and do the right thing for the team.

I desperately want to kill the Commanders in Week 1, and a performance like last night won't get it done.

re: San Diego. If Mathews is for real, then so are the Chargers. And Mathews really looks for real.

I think the Cowboys are both mentally and physically tired. They've been beating on each other for a month now. They have suffered some significant injuries and I have to believe their extended schedule has contributed. Romo has the stomach flu. Two O-linemen starters are injured.

Frankly, the coaches ought to know by now what kind of team they are going to field. If they don't, they need to sign onto the Zone.

The players need to re-charge their batteries for the season.

I'm so sick of reading the part in bold about our team. It is a prime example of the mentality of this team due to our ***** head coach. we're always made out to be the nerd who fights back against the bully or the nice guy who got beat up by the bully. always helping players from other teams up and taking it easy on qbs. yesterday Spencer took it easy on Rivers and thus it almost cost us a td. Rivers was in Church's way so Spencer should've thrown him on his *** and than asked him what he has to say about that since he likes to talk so much. The defense needs to stop being a bunch of nice guy ******* like Wade Phillips is and become some ruthless monsters who come out and knock the **** out of teams. WE NEED TO BECOME THE BULLY NOT THE BULLIED!

Hard to argue with. I too was disappointed that Spencer didn't lay Rivers out flat.

I like your post. I agree. I like that when this team has a bad night, like last night, they can still hang in there. They were making mistakes left and right and getting gashed on every play, but they were still hanging in there.

The team showed some scrappiness, and that is what we need sometimes.

Romo is going to have to play a whole heck of a lot better then he did last night or it is going to be a long season.

Roy Williams take a lot of heat, much of which is deserved, but he is wide open multiple times vs San Diego and Romo just missed him and badly. Throwing one 3 feet over his head and another way behind him and at his feet.

Romo also missed Austin a couple of times and just didnt seem to be on the same page as any of the WRs.

Obviously preseason is for working these kings out but that to be a bit concerning when you consider how long this group has played together.
