While still drunk on the sweet wine of victory and while we're all engaged in vigorous back-slapping, I thought I'd take some time to slap the broad back of one Flozell Adams.

Watching and reading all of this coverage of the Cowboys' playoff victory would lead one to believe that no one wanted this win more than Wade Phillips and/or Tony Romo, and that no one deserved it more than they. It's hard to argue this.

But then I think about Flozell Adams, who has been here for the last 13 long years. 5-11 years. A couple of playoff heartbreaks. 4 different head coaches and a seemingly endless carousel of different quarterbacks. No one has been in this organization longer than he, and I'd argue no one deserves it more than our big left tackle.

Flozell's taken a lot of heat from fans and media over the years. His false starts and his dumb personal fouls at the WORST times befuddle us and make him an easy target when things don't go right. He gets paid top-dollar and is (rightfully) held to a high standard of play. His long career has begun to take its toll on his on-field play in recent years, but in reality, he's been a rock at arguably the most important position on the offensive line for over a dozen seasons, and that's something you don't come by every day.

Flozell has been a dominant player at his position and the Cowboys wouldn't be where they are today without his consistently high level of play.

I had wanted to end this Fanpost with a quote from Flozell on his first playoff win, so I searched through the local news and blogs and then went to the national outlets - I couldn't find a single quote from Flozell. I guess that's indicative of how the game is viewed now. The Head Coach and Quarterback are the two most visible pieces of a football team. I just happen to think a 13-year veteran left tackle who shuts out Trent Cole for the second week in a row is one of the IMPORTANT pieces of a football team.

So, here's to Flozell. I hope this isn't the only recognition he gets.

Agree with everything except the above word. His high level is what keeps him valuable. His IN-consistency is what drives all of us nuts. He did have a great game against Cole, so here's to owning Allen.

Nice post.

I agree. I'm one of Flo's biggest supporters. Unless we go out and draft a big-time stud to replace him in the 1st round, we're going to really feel his absence when we do decide to let him go. Sure he's not Orlando Pace or Walter Jones in their primes, but he's been pretty darn close.

Over the last 6 weeks where have Flo been inconsistent? Sometimes I wonder what the hell fans see when they watch the game because he has been a rock and completely dominated everyone that lined up against him. Where I am from that is the very definition of consistency.

I hope he continues his fine play, because we are really going to need it this week. As far as I'm concerned, his play is one of the keys to the game.

Indeed. I predict Flo will pitch a near shutout of Allen. He is tall and his game is largely based on power, advantage Flo.

Good points. Allen's size/style sets up nicely for Flo.

I totally agree about Flozell's game. The only thing that worries me (As Irvin stated over the weekend) was the crowd noise in the Dome and Adams' hearing issues.

I seriously doubt it will be any louder than at NO. Loudest I've heard all season, IMO.

Flozell can't hear anyway. He had no problem with the crowd noise in NO at all. He is probably just going by movement anyway.

When Flo is on a mission, he is a heck of a player.

He won't have time to be lazy against Allen.

That's good.

People need to stop and think of all the things that Flozell has done over the years. Sure, the penalties are migraines at times and he will make announcers call his name when OL performance should be silent because of good play.

And I will even agree that many of his Pro Bowl selections have come more from rep than high performance.

But Flo can and has been dominate over the years and it is about time we at least give a few cyber high-fives for his play. I believe he has allowed Jerry the luxery of plugging holes at other position because of LT position is on lockdown.

Thank you Flozell and I look forward to another quiet day shutting down Jarred Allen!

Bryant McKinnie got Flo's spot this year, proof that there just isn't any better tackles than Flo in the nfc.

Flo was terrible in NO and that was in the last six games.

He was also pretty bad in NY and that was also in the last six games.

Flo can be pretty good but he is in deep trouble against speed rushers these days. Will Smith just absolutely abused him - we won the game in spite of Flo against NO.

This week should be a favourable matchup for Flo - Allen is a power and effort rusher. If Flo has his head on straight he will neutralize Allen completely and Romo will shred the Vikings secondary.

That's the real truth about Adams. He has as much ability as any OT. Even at this stage of his career, provided he's healthy. And it appears he is.

He can and has shut down the best. Just seems to need the challenge of a premier pass rusher to prepare for.

He'll do real well against Allen.

You're over stating this. Smith definetly git the best of him a few too many times. But he did not own Adams. Yes Adams has had more problems with speed rushers these past few years.
The noise in NO and Smith's burst was a bad combo and may be again in a few weeks.
How do you think he did against speed rusher Cole this weekend? Can't say I remember hearing either player's name and that's a good thing.

I think you are understating how disruptive Will Smith was that game - I think there were a couple of sacks, a couple of penalties and a few pressures. On a 1-on-1 basis this is really not a good matchup for Flo anymore.

Trent Cole is a product of the Philly blitzes. Since we were audibling into screens on most of the blitzes Flo could concentrate on just dealing with Cole and he is not an overwhelming player on his own, IMO.

It's not like I hate Flo - he does have his weakness and that weakness is becoming weaker over time. He is still pretty good at times and pretty bad at times. His numbers this year are pretty bad and you can try and ignore them all you want but they will still be there at the end of the day.

I think he plays well again this Sunday and this will help Romo shred the Vikings.

If we do play NO again, I would suggest chipping Will Smith in passing situations.
