Daily I read these threads and become severly frustrated by the parcells bashing that goes on. Yes, I believe Deadslow should be bench for Romo....now that we got that out the way...but I get tired of the threads of "what really has parcells done" or "Bill's time has past him by"
Look, before Bill we had your campos, switzers, and gaileys. Campo was the worst. His drafts were ridulous and his caoching style was North Dallas Fortyish!
For once, just once, I would like to see a "good job" thread BEFORE he does the ultimate and wins. We loved him when he had lemons his first year and still was able to make lemonade with a playoff berth. But two non-playoffs seasons later and we question the mojo that made him the living legend he is.
Of course I am not satisfied and I want to see us win just as bad as the rest of the cowboys family. But can we stop (just for a second) and reflect on the outstanding turnaround job he has been able to do, once again. He did it in New Jersey with the Giants. He did it in New England (and they were really bad) and He did it in New York with the Jets.
And now he has done it again in Dallas! See, the cowboys were not only a bad football team with pathetic players, but Jerry had done a masterful job of leading the organization into the ground without a shovel. We were going no where pretty fast and jerry seemed to have his foot on the gas pedal.
In comes bill.
I first appreciate the professionalism and attitude he has brought to the franchise. You see, the Cowboys don't have any Chris Henrys or Koren Robinsons on their team. Keith Davis is the closest thing to that and both of his incidents was not fault. Every player on the team understands what being a professional means and there are no thugs. Thanks Bill. I appreciate that.
(T.O. is T.O. but he is no thug. Just a little too sensitive and talks too much).
I also appreciate his football acumen. BP knows how to scout talent. This team is flooded with parcell guys that he has either drafted or players that have played for him in the past. Only Roy williams and Flozell Adams are from the pre-parcells era and yet BP has put together one of the most talented teams ( if not the most talented team) in the league. Sorry Switzer but there are no David Lefleurs on this team. And Campo, Tony Dixon had to go.
What I do appreciate is how parcells is able to get players to perform for him when other team didnt see what he saw. i.e your terry glenns, tyson thompsons, and tony romos. Other than Antonio Bryant (and the garbage bags he carries still stinks), name me a player that parcells has cut and then ending up being a productive player somewhere else? ( Salary cap casualties dont count).
(like the beer commercial)
Yes, Here's to you Mr. Find Seven Contributing Players in one draft (ware, spears, canty, ratlif, barber, crayton, thompson).
I cant really say how this season will play out and I hope we make the playoff and go all the way. But even if we don't I know parcell has done a great job in turning this team and franchise around. Great coaches are so hard to find and staying competitive is even harder.
As a fan I love the fact that every sunday I know my cowboys will have a legitimate chance to win and that's all I can ask for. The foundation is set and looks to be in place for a long time. i.e pittburg...new england...indy...
And before I go, here's a high five to you parcell for being smarter than the media. See, any other coach couldnt handle this whole T.O. circus with the grace and style of a parcells. What patience! Hell sometimes he even has fun with it. But he knows deep down that it is what it is. He keeps life and football in perpective and makes the call based on what he sees. Not what he hears. Every relationship with his players is personal and boy do they love him after they are gone. To many of them he is the father they have never known.
If you retire Parcell...thanks for the memories and you don't have to win a Super Bowl for me to toast you. You have done a superb job in turning my heroes back on the winning track. Everybody may not agree with you and all your decisions ( I still dont regarding Deadslow) but I still think you are one hell of a coach!
Here's to You!
