Here's what I think we should do at RT ....

No, I wouldn't move LA, etc.

IF BP thinks that Petitti can eventually be the man at RT, I'd give him extra reps (taken away from Tucker) and work during TC and practice. Have the coaching staff spend time getting him ready (i.e, film time, etc).

During games, have a TE help out a bit until Petitti gets comfortable.

Use Vollers as a swing man for now. BP already knows his ability/limitations.

Didn't San Diego also have a 6th rounder from Ohio State as their starter last year at RT?

There will be growing pains, but if BP thinks Petitti has the aptitude, maybe we should start the process now? Worst case, Vollers and Petitti share time at RT this season.

Opinions?

When I read your title before looking at your post I was thinking the same thing!

Tucker should be on the waiver wire right now.

I think so too. And not only due to his sub-par performance thus far.

I still don't understand how he could show up so out of shape? The RT spot was for the taking. He could have been a starter and secured his future and his family's future. It just shows a lack of dedication and resolve.

I'm curious as to what still having Tucker on the roster really means. Does it mean the staff is still hopeful he can turn things around? Does it mean the other options aren't as rosy as we've been told? Or is it the simple fact every other team in the NFL has 83 players on their roster and the Cowboys are keeping Tucker around for reps until the first cuts are made?

With the way Tucker has been doing and BPs infamous skunk comments directed towards tucker, with Rogers and his injury concerns...it may be exactly what you are saying that comes to pass if they can not find someone via FA.

But.... would you be better off putting the rookie at his natural position(LT) and move the vet(Flozell) to RT

I think you would be better off that way than Flozell at left and Petitti at right. Flozell is not playing that well any way so maybe it would be an improvement in the overall line play.

Fortunately or unfortunately, I think this is the most plausible scenario today.

I do think Petiti eventually can start at RT. I thought he did OK Saturday. He got beat a little but on at least one of those plays we were playing more "vanilla" than we would have done it in the regular season. I think Bill was playing the kid straight up on Chike to see where he was at. In a real game, he'd have Campbell giving him more help on speed rushers.

But.... We are talking about a player who lasted until Round 6 here. The chances of him being able to come in and start in week 1 seem slim to me. Really we are just kind of hoping he can do it at this point. I like Petiti but I see him as more of a project at this point. He'll need a year or two to become a starter that we can count on.

Parcells said "we'll be as good at RT as we were last year." That says it all -- sounds like Vollers is our RT if the season began tomorrow.

Isn't there a couple decent free agent tackles still available?

Think Terry has a shoulder injury, and as for the ex-Cleveland player (forgot his name), I think he's a LT as well (and he wants a ton of $$$).

Well, according to BP, you are what you are.

But in Petitti's case, I think he had a foot injury which caused him to put on weight before the Combines.

I'm no expert, but I think a healthy Petitti could as easily have been a 3rd-4th rounder.

That said, you're correct. It's a lot to expect from a rookie, esp. a rookie who is switching sides.

I'm VERY curious as to what BP thought of Petitti's play Saturday night - given that if was his first start at RT and that he was battling an injury.

Terry can be a good player but I hate him. Seattle got him after he was released from Carolina following a domestic violence incident. In my book he is scum and I'd have a very hard time rooting for him.
