Here's what I'm hoping

Honestly, I take no pleasure in the threads I've made this week. I really don't like feeling angry about this team. So, I'm going to try to make a positive thread here, like I would MUCH prefer doing. Here's what I'm hoping happens in the offseason:

  • We hire someone like Flores, Ben Johnson, Aaron Glenn, or Mike Vrabel. I think these would be coaches (especially on the defencive-minded side) who can really be better about reinforcing physicality on the team. With them, maybe we can really focus on stopping the run.
  • If we go defence at HC, then I want an OC who can focus on the trenches and running the ball. I'd love for us to get someone who can work with Dak in that way. They focus on the run, and, when we are going to throw, that's more for Dak to check to or call. In other words, maybe have it as more of a partnership, but skews more to the rushing attack. Kinda like what we did a decade ago when we were a Murray fumble away from the NFCC. It was so much fun watching us gash teams for massive yards, and then Romo turning around and tearing defences apart. I want to see that again.
  • I want Jeanty. A large part of my frustration stems from not getting Henry. I wanted Henry, Zeke, Dowdle, and Luepke. I think, if Jeanty is on the board when we are drafting that we need to take him. He looks like a combo of AP and Derrick Henry. How fun would it be to see him just gash defences? He seems like an old school lead back that can be really exciting to watch run. Him, Dowdle, and Luepke and a quick back for outside runs would be amazing!!
  • Run stopping NTs and LBers. I want to see us learn how to be more physical on defence. I want us to be able to stop the run and force takeaways. I think a HC from the defence side and/or a really good DC can do wonders with the defence.

All in all, as frustrating as this season has been, I'm hopeful that it can lead to a brighter future. I'm hopeful that maybe, just maybe, it can create a more physical team in the future. In so doing, perhaps the Cowboys can become contenders. It would be amazing if this season leads to a much more fun future for the team. A horse can dream, right?

They should trade for more draft capital and draft 2 dtackles and 2 top running backs. I like Grant from Michigan and Harmon from Oregon. There are 4 backs that I like. Any 2 of the 4 would work. Jeanty and Singleton from Penn State would work or the Iowa back and TreVeyon from Ohio State.

It's right there looking them in the face. They can take bids on Parsons and Diggs.

Honestly, here's what I'd love if we don't trade. Here are my 2 dream first 3 picks drafts:

Draft 1:
Jeanty, Deone Walker (NT Kentucky), and DJ Stutsman (lb OU)

Draft 2:
Williams NT OSU, Banks (guard Texas), and Gordon (RB Ok State)

Either would help start us to become a more physical team.

When it comes to the draft, I think the focus has to be on defense. I think they need another edge rusher opposite Micah, but I don't think this draft is going to be good for Edge rushers. They could use another DT, especially if Odighizuwa leaves via free agency. Even if he stays, Joseph is as old as dirt, Carlos Watkins is not that great and Mazi has been slow to develop if he develops at all. Mason Graham is highly rated out of Michigan, but do we trust another Michigan DT?

They need RB but I would wait to draft a RB, Jeanty looks great but with the Cowboys offensive line he might look ordinary. If there are two things we must agrees it is the run blocking and run stopping.

My idea would line up well for them. If they missed on Grant from Michigan they could target Walker from Kentucky. I like Grant more.

Obviously a coaching change is coming.

I’m not really interested in a guy like Belichick because I want to at least have hope of building something that will last more than two years….and it could very well take that long to build the roster to where BB wants it, then it’s time for him to quit, sort of like the Parcells situation.

I want a situation like LaFleur, or McVay etc. Seems as if Ryans will be in Houston for a while. Stability, consistency, and the HC being clearly in charge. That’s probably a while away from happening. There’s a SHOT it could happen under little Stevie, but definitely not under the walking ego, who wants his “credit” for everything but not the criticism.

Oh, no doubt about the need for a pass rusher. I just think, with a new OC that has expertise in oline, maybe the oline issues are more scheme. Imagine if we got basically a Quinn-type coach at OC that can figure out a good oline scheme. I think Guyton, for example, has issues that are easier coachable for an oline expert. so, to me, if we can get such a coach at OC, it speaks to Jeanty being a good first pick and going with option one of my dream draft picks (as for pass rush, I'd love to get Sai'von Jones LSU or Alfred Collins DE Texas, plus, who knows what we get awarded in comp picks).

To me, if we don't go Jeanty first. Then maybe we go with this, which is my dream option two:

Williams NT OSU, Banks (guard Texas), and Gordon (RB Ok State)

That gives us a run stuffer, another guard (especially if Martin retires), and a solid back. To me, I think Banks in round 2 makes a lot of sense if we go NT first. I think Steele has been terrible. I think maybe we go next year (assuming Martin doesn't retire) under a more blue collar physical OC with Tyler Smith at LT, Banks at LG, Beebe at C, Martin at RG, and Guyton at RT (his more natural position). I think that gives us a much more physical oline .

Right, that's kinda why I'm leaning maybe we go Glenn or Ben Johnson. Heck, maybe even Saleh.

I would prefer Walker. He's massive and I think he'd be a great run stopper for us.

I can't disagree with any strategy at this point because we are so far away from the draft. And the Cowboys have so many immediate needs. I want to see what juniors come out, who plays in the senior bowl games and what they look like at the combine. They don't have to reach for a player because they have needs all over the place. Whoever falls to them is going to help hopefully. I just hope they are drafting in the top 12 again.

Yeah, and that might be our best case scenario at this point to get a high draft pick.

Need more draft picks or be willing to spend a little bit in free agency.

Need more speed on offense. Need to revamp almost the entire DL

agree with you,rusty.
we need a tough, hard nosed, disciplined type hc who would/could infuse some steel into their spines.
give me mike vrable.
fmr player...so he understands the locker-room dynamics.
excellent def mind...so he could help fix that side of the ball.
and i think his personality type...he'd be able to stand up to the f/o when necessary.
with vrable...the o.c. hire is important.
but a vrable type,in my opinion,is what this team needs.

Yup, is take Vrabel fur sure. Vrabel at HC, let him get a hard nosed smash mouth run focused OC and a physical DC. See if we can become more physical.

I’m not so sure it matters who it is when the FO thinks the players they have are better than they actually are.

As one example, they haven’t added a significant free agent on FOURTEEN years. Think about that for a minute. They think they draft so well that they don’t have to and that’s far from the truth, but not what the people they hire tell them….which is what they depend on.

Funny how coaches are much better with better players.

Oh,no doubt, and I'm aware Jerry's the biggest issue. I just think the coaches I'm suggesting at least have a chance of instilling a more physical mindset. Then again, Jerry will probably just hire Kellen.

We all know it doesn't really matter with Jerruh running the ****** rodeo. I would absolutely LOVE the scenario of getting a guy like Johnson, having a super high draft pick, and trading down and stacking picks.

But it ain't gonna happen. The league doesn't want us to be truly awful. So I imagine we're going to get some calls our way and fiddle around flirting with the playoffs only to end up out and with a mid pick and a new retread coach.

That would be the worst case scenario. If we're not going to the playoffs, then the higher the draft pick the better for the long run.

Jeanty would be a godsend for this offense. Sign me up!

At HC, I want Belichick...and I want to see him bring in two options as chosen successors at DC and OC. I don't think X's and O's have passed him by. He's one of the best defensive minds in the world, and I believe he can turn the ship around on that side of the ball with the current talent on the team.

That's not why I want him though. We need a massive culture shift. Parcells did it after the turn of the century, and the team has been relatively successful since he left. Jerral's ego got in the way, and Bill wasn't able to finish the job. If we allow his greatest student to put his hands on this organization, build personnel the right way, and shift the culture away from "flash with no substance", and into "gritty, hard work, and accountability", and then pass the torch to his chosen guy, we could see the beginnings of long term, high end success. The beginning of a dynasty. It makes too much sense. Jerry would be an IDIOT to not make this happen.
