Now, everybody put their big boy pants on...

He did an interview with the local news media here in Corpus Christi, prior to his lecture.

Being in the middle of very strong Cowboy country, the female reporter as Herm what he thought about the Cowboys' #4 pick in the draft. His first comment was that he thought that Tony Romo probably had another two or three seasons ahead.

He then proceeded with the statement, that right now, the talent level on the Cowboys was at the win now level.
Then it was pointed out that there would be draft interest for a quarterback when Dallas would be on the clock.

The suggestion was that with that pick, Dallas could trade down and secure two starters.

It will probably only take a nine win season to put the Cowboys into the playoffs.

The only story from Edwards of any note is his baby sitter taking him to see Hendrix at the Monterey Pop Festival back in the day.

Anything else from him, meh.

All the pop offs on insight into the NFL...like that is the true nature of the challenge, really are a second class citizenship.

The need to try to win, is the sport...and the frolicing of a person who watches, doesn't equal the challenge on the carpet itself. One either enjoys the battle and struggles on the carpet, or he vainly tries to deal fame and glamour of someone else. Dealing in ultimate glory alone.

If one is actually fighting, then that is a huge step above the insults and ownership of 'insight' dealt out as value.

I'll just show some respect to the man, who learned a ton from the sport despite the challenges of just being a man...not a Mafia figure, because he loved football. And he also played it well.

This is a very important off season both for the Dallas Cowboys and for Jason Garrett and his staff.

The team has some really quality players...to include a great offensive line, that provides for consecutive years of 1,000+ yard rushers, a valid franchise quarterback, and a verifiable top five wide receiver.

Both Tony Romo and Jason Witten are playing their back nines now...but they are still in the thick of play.

Not every piece added now, will be the top in the NFL, but what is important at this point, is that pieces added or retained have to contribute to a winning team. There already is enough talent to be able to take the NFC East. Due to the intensity of play on the defensive side, they may have tired in the past come the end of games, but that is what is being worked on right now. The players to increase both the depth and youth in a rotation. The offense can challenge most of the defenses in the league, already.

This staff has already answered the bell for the fight started, and I really don't see a bunch of quitters leading this team. Having former Dallas linemen, Leon Lett and Marc Colombo, brings a perspective and touch with the play of the Cowboys from the past. They are good coaches as well.

They are growing the team as we talk...but I'm not going to be the one always tossing stones and others who are patiently watching. I'm going to be a fan, and at least watch and keep up with how their efforts are coming together. Not all players are going to be diamonds, but in the end, they will be players who put it all out on the field. This to an old fan as myself, is worth the watch....I, at least, don't have to see a new Lombardi in Jerry's office to enjoy watching my team. They are still my Cowboys, and YEA, they still play to win!

Tomorrow starts the Combine, which is leading to:

With Gregory's suspension, Lawrence's status in doubt, and the unlikeliness of a Greg Hardy reunion, Jones has discussed how the Cowboys might improve the pass rush. Dallas was 25th in the league in sacks a season ago.

According to Jones, the Cowboys need to address this area in the offseason.

"Obviously that's a need for us," Jones said. "It's at the top of the list. The really good football teams tend to get pressure on the quarterbacks, so it continues to be a goal of ours. We hadn't necessarily been great at it the last couple of years, and we've got to continue to figure out a way to improve upon that."

Probably the most over rated coach in NFL history. Has rode the "Miracle in the Meadowlands" further than I ever thought possible...

Didn't say he wasn't a great speaker.....I've listened to him many a time. There is more to coaching than being able to give a speech. Guys on this level see through the motivational talk. They want someone that understands the x/o's and can convey that message. Talk is cheap....and it doesn't take long for players to see that a head guy got the job based on some uppity management recommendation
that never played the game. That's why I think Garrett is never gonna amount to much.
He has parlayed one Thanksgiving hailmary-thon to Alvin Harper into a coaching gig..that should have never been started to begin with...

One can see growth and at the same time have fertile opportunity to see failures. That is the nature of the beast, and even applied to Tom Landry is first six seasons in Dallas.

Did he make it out of the fog?

Tom didn't have much more growth process in the NFL, than the experiences that Jason has been the recipient of as well.

Just like Landry, he hasn't lost the faith of his players...and with more problems to deal with as to personalities, than even Tom had.

This is a transitionary season for Jason, and they are pretty focused at Valley Ranch. I'm at least going to watch and value directions as this goes into the regular season. We all know of the challenges that will arrive at that point, but I'm not about to rain on the parade until I give a good look see.

Tom would have never allowed 3/4th the BS that goes on here....As for Garrett...he's got zero control as to who is on this roster....Big difference:(

I don't understand how a QB who came into last season " in the best condition he'd been in for many years" can be injured in 3 out of the 4 games he played, yet some think at age 36 he has 2-3 years left. Mind you he wasn't even hit hard to force these injuries.

No, we won't be trading down and yes, we'll take a stud QB, finally. Tony will be lucky to make it through TC.

This is a very important off season both for the Dallas Cowboys and for Jason Garrett and his staff.

As opposed to the rest of the offseasons that were not very important?
Just throwing that out, mate.

LOL - thanks for that. Where to start, so many easy pickings--

1. You don't understand because he wasn't hit hard? Never mind the fact that joints, bones and tendons don't need to be hit hard - just right.

2..Brady wasn't hit hard in 2008 missed the entire season.
Andrew Luck got hit on an ordinary tackle and lacerated his spleen and was out all last season.
Bradford
Bridgewater
Taylor
Dalton - OK - very hard hit on this "thumb"
Roethlisberger
Manning
Brees
Yates
And we can't forget that shot Geno Smith took.

3. Finally somebody who has inside news on our War Room. We're not trading down. Great!

4. Even if we do draft a QB he isn't getting off the bench for a couple of years unless...Romo gets hit "hard" again.

5 . Gotta love those studs. You know, Jamarcus Russell, Matt Leinert, Vince Young, Mark Sanchez, EJ Manual, Sam Bradford, Manziel. All big time studs from big time programs who played in big time games. The good news from you is this year is a lock for a stud. Great again!

6. As for the training camp injury hyperbole - I'll put a grand on that.

That's really all I have.

No, because the rest of the season is so important. But small chances for roster changes afterwards.
