Herm Johnson down to 356 at LSU pro day

  • Tyson Jackson looked great but only did 20 reps on the bench press
  • Darry Beckwith shaved his 40 time down to 4.65
  • Quinn Johnson looked great and also shaved his time down
But the buzz among Nfl scouts are about Herm Johnson who looked great in position drills. He was 382 at the Senior Bowl, he was 364 at the combine now he's 356. This guy will be a beast on the next level.

per Path of the draft. Will have more trying to type while I hear it.

I have said it before, I think the Munster will be better than Duke Robinson when it is all said and done. He is much more aware in the passing game, as dominating (if not more) in the running game and he has better intangibles.

if he keeps his functional strength, yes, i think herman can be a beast, i wouldnt mind the cowboys drafting him, looks like he gets it now about his weight, etc

Bat,

Leonard Davis is a Pro Bowl guard at 366.

Do you think the Cowboys view Johnson as a right side player only? I would hate to miss out on this guy just because of that. The "Planet Theory" should be considered. How many times do you get to draft a guy that big?

I have heard no draft people say he's only a right side player.

This guy has RT potential if you wanted to ever move him over there.

How did Ricky-Jean do? Did he even workout or sat on his Combine numbers?

He did very well. I have the program taped so I will rewatch it give you exact numbers but the scouts said he is a underated DT that got hurt and Dorsey took over but when he return he was MVP of some bowl games.

The guy who they interviewed who is a LSU broadcaster said Ricky Jean is an unknown even to them. The feeling from the broadcast was that he will be a better player on the next level than he showed in college.

Also Herm Johnson did 25 reps on the bench today raiseing his total by four from the combine.

I think Johnson is more suited to the right side player, especially early in his carerr. But he is smart enough to play LG (the guy is very underrated as a pass blocker). Bigg has played LT and LG before, he could easily slide to the weakside. He may be better suited there in fact.

IMO Johnson can also play RT, he moves laterally very well for a guy his size but his greatest attribute is his reach. Nonetheless he will have trouble w/speed guys and that is why an inside position is where he can really shine (as in pro bowl potential).

LSU Pro Day draws 24 NFL teams
Posted: Pro Days | NFL.com Staff | Tags: Darry Beckwith, Demetrius Byrd, Herman Johnson, LSU, Tyson Jackson
The LSU Pro Day was held in Baton Rouge on Monday with 24 NFL teams attending, including the entire Saints coaching staff. A total of 15 NFL position coaches attended, including defensive line, offensive line, linebacker and defensive back coaches.
new nfl.widgets.VideoPlayer({ contentId: "09000d5d80f4a53a", related: "home", adSetting: "1", playerName: "blog_embedded", size: "inline", uniqid: "09000d5d80f4a53a"})

One of the hottest prospects from LSU, DE Tyson Jackson (6-4 1/8, 296 pounds), did 20 repetitions of 225 pounds on the bench press and participated in position drills, but otherwise stood on his times from the NFL combine. Another top prospect, LB Darry Beckwith (6-0 1/8, 234 pounds), put up 40-yard dash times of 4.70 and 4.63 and he participated in position drills, but aside from that he stood on his combine times..
G Herman Johnson (6-7 1/8, 356 pounds), an intriguing player due to his incredible size, had a 26 1/2-inch vertical leap with a 7-foot, 10-inch broad jump and times of 5.01 in the short shuttle and 8.58 in the three-cone drill. He had 24 reps on the bench press.
A surprise performance came from DE Kirston Pittman (6-2 5/8, 250 pounds), who didn’t attend the combine. He turned in 40 times of 4.69 and 4.72, and had a 30 1/2-inch vertical and an 8-foot, 8-inch broad jump. He had a 4.45 time in the short shuttle and a 7.64 time in the three-cone drill. He put up 28 reps on the bench press.
Players ran indoors on FieldTurf. In all, 15 players worked out at an extremely well-organized event that went quickly. Here are other notables:
WR Demetrius Byrd (6-0 1/2, 196 pounds) had times of 4.47 and 4.50 in the 40. He had a 35 1/2-inch vertical and a 9-foot, 9-inch broad jump with times of 4.52 in the short shuttle and 7.08 in the three-cone drill. He did not lift.
FS Curtis Taylor (6-2 1/4, 207 pounds) ran the 40-yard dash with times of 4.52 and 4.55, and he stood on the rest of his numbers from the combine.
FB Quinn Johnson (6-1 1/4, 250 pounds) had times of 4.72 and 4.75 in the 40, and produced a 7.65 time in the three-cone drill. He stood on the rest of his numbers from the combine.

Pittman is interesting, only had 30something tackles, 5.5 for loss and 2.5 sacks this year, but he was very good in '07: 68 tackles, 12.5 TFL, 7.5 sacks

Thanks. He's a wildcard, imo.

I really like him, and he stood out on that line. Black is a stud, too. When they played, I always said that I wish my team had "that guy".

Here is a source where the numbers are better for some of the players. This has Johnson's numbers better in some of the drills. According to this, Byrd ran a 4.43. That is close to his 4.42 at the combine. I think 4.35 was his low time at the combine.

another player you should keep an eye on is Northwestern DT John Gill, he's 6'3" 300 and had a very good Pro Day, wasn't invited to the Combine, his 20-yard shuttle (4.40) and 3-cone (7.09) would beat any DT at the Combine, 29 reps, 31" vert

I've always thought he could be another Luis Castillo, albeit a poor man's

Thanks. That shuttle time is good, and the 3-cone is good, too. A poor man's Castillo would be a good thing.

I wish we could find a poor man's Ratliff.

Another "poor man's Castillo" is Cal Davis' John Faletoese (6'2 290). He's just as explosive, very good technician and tenacious as heck. Small school guy, but was an all-star each and every year, played well in the bowl game practices against the big names.

yep, been keeping an eye on him too

those 2 would definitely be at the top of my priority free agent list

Johnson says these teams are showing the most interest in him:

Bears
Dolphins
Chargers
Buccaneers

Notice the Dolphins. The Dolphins are looking at the same guards we are. Sparano must want to go away from Parcells' template and get bigger and stronger at the position after coaching the 2007 Dallas line, which featured Leonard Davis.

Of course the contrarian on the Zone would say if Parcells is interested in a specific OL, take the other one instead.
