Guess they are trying to get their ducks in a row since he still under contract and they haven't intervied Coordinators yet

While it’s been reported for a while that new Texans defensive coordinator Wade Phillips would have some interest in some of his former defensive assistants, it might be easier said than done.

Phillips and the Texans have apparently asked for permission to speak with linebackers coach Reggie Herring, but have been denied. Herring’s contract does not expire in the upcoming weeks and will be under contract for 2011. The same goes for safeties coach Brett Maxie, who has been rumored as a possible fit in Houston, although the Texans have yet to seek permission.

But since the Cowboys weren’t ready to let Herring interview, it’s likely the same answer would be given for Maxie.

And this might just be a timing issue. The Cowboys may indeed be looking to make some defensive changes, but haven’t yet figured out what. Until then, it seems logical to hang onto the assistants for now.

Wow. Strange move by Jerry. Maybe it wasn't Jerry that made the call (Garrett).

could just be a "you wait until we get our staff together first" deal - we likely want to let the new DC have some say in this

Well, again, you don't just let someone go unless you have a viable replacement. My guess is, since they lost out on Miami's coaches (for now), they're holding on to what they have, until they find replacements.

Wade pillaged the Chargers coaches and players throughout his tenure here.

I expect he be trying to pillage here ... arrrr!

Gotta hand it to the Texans.

You're defense gives up the 29th most points in the league, so you're reaction is to go pillage the coaching staff of the team that gave up the 30th most.

:laugh2: I lol'ed

From what I've read Herring is more of a college coach and the players don't really care for him. What is Jerry doing here? He (Herring) had to have input with Wade on his group and IMO this is probably the weakest position on the team. Ware seems to skew your feeling about that unit, but if you took him out it's really weak and thin.

Not without Campo and Maxie I tell you. Dealbreaker. All or nothing.

Exactly. Why allow coaches to leave before you have a DC in place to evaluate them and decide who he'd like to keep. No DC is going to be able to come in and get everyone he'd like to have on his staff. There will be some holdovers simply for that reason.
