They are about to flood the Atchafalaya. I have lots of kin down there and things are looking real bleak for a lot of the homes and crops. A bunch of people about to lose everything they have worked for.

That sucks.

I just saw a piece on CNN.com about Butte La Rose (sp?) and how many of the residents weren't prepared for the forecast once they open up the spillway.

Some were thinking a few feet max but the Army engineer was telling them 15 feet was coming right where they were standing.

Awful.

We call it Butte a La Rose. It's a great place to go camping and doing a great deal of fishing. I spent a lot of time in my youth on that area of the river. That area actually splits off into two other rivers as well.

Most of the homes in that area aren't real expensive and most should be able to rebuild, but still, it's home and it's hard to replace "home."

You get any pics please post them.

Sad news indeed.

Man, they're talking something like 11,000 homes and farmlands.

They just showed a piece on the news of a guy who built a 19 foot mud wall around his house. Dug the dirt from his cornfield and stacked it around the house. Wow.

Done. Good luck to everyone in that region and God bless.

If nothing else, Cajun people are resourceful.

And thanks everyone for the prayers.

Its crazy how it works.
I'm in the Twin Cities right now and we went thru a brutal winter.
So the snow melts here, floods the Mississippi and rolls down stream all the way south.
Never gave it a thought while in TX.

I know the pics are small but these were shot by a real close friend of mine. Looks like the last pic is heading over the Atchafalaya.
