The Commanders will host free agent Larry Johnson on Thursday.

The fit is odd because L.J. is a power runner (at least in theory), while Skins coach Mike Shanahan is installing a zone-blocking scheme. The visit may be a tactic by Shanahan to motivate Clinton Portis for the offseason.

I would think Shanahan would be excited to have Portis again. I know he's lost a step since then...but the guy produced in Denver.

From what I remember, the issue was money. Portis had been good for 15 minutes before he started crowing about how he needed to get paid and holding out, and Shanny wasn't having it. Now that Portis already has his big dollar contract, I doubt they'd have that issue again.
