Pure and simple, we are going to have to change our philosophy on offense.
Pettiti has done outstanding based on the challenges set out before him when the year begun, but asking the Cowboys to field TWO changeouts at Tackle is a bit much.
Pettiti....doesn't really worry me.
Tucker, on the other hand, scares the ever-loving crap out of me.
As I see it, the season progresses in one of two ways:
1. Tucker improves and is at least servicable at LT. We are able to run the ball on the left side and his development allows us to be more unpredictable in run situations purely because we don't have a threat at either Tackle position. He does the job as well as we could ask him.
2. Tucker sucks. He becomes a turnstile as Bledsoe's sacks begin to accumulate and we are forced to either replace him or rotate the blocking to his side on passing plays to make up for his lack of ability. Tucker is cut in the offseason and we begin to look hard at a quality backup OT in the offseason.
Personally, I think that Tucker is going to be servicable, but will inevitably let us down several times during the season. The trick is going to be when he decides to let down--during 3rd and 12 or 2nd and 3.
I will credit Parcells with this--he's kept Tucker around for a while now, and we know that Bill doesn't have a lot of patience with players that he views as going nowhere. The mere fact that Torrin has stuck around this long speaks volumes about Bill's faith that he will eventually develop into......something.
In the long and short of it, I guess we find out this Sunday.
