The only thing I ever had against him was the posters here that thought we should spend a 2nd or higher on him.

Then wouldn't it be fair to say your problem is with the poster not the player? I'm not shy about saying I would have been happy with selecting Shipley but instead with the 1st pick we took Dez a guy many did not think would last as long on the board as he did. Great break for the Cowboys and once that selection was made it would not have made much sense taking Shipley

I'm sure there are some UT chumps out there who wish we had the Shipley scrub over Dez. They would do Roy Williams trade again. They think VY is better than Romo just ask the fools.

True but I still don't think he'd be worth that high a pick. In the long run I could be proven wrong, it wouldn't be the first time, and I'll admit it.

and there are those who would not draft a guy because of their own personal dislike of Texas. I'm a big horns fan but never once put a Texas player over what is best for the Cowboys. I'm thrilled Dez was still on the board that late in the 1st rd and while I do like Shipley I don't know of anyone claiming him to be a 1st rd pick.

This thread fails because we got the best WR in the draft in Dez. Altho I love me sum Shipley.

So let me get this right if you thought Shipley was a 3rd to 4th round talent player you are a hater.

I mean come on the Bengals drafted him in the 3rd round about the range he was rated at and once the Cowboys took Dez what was the point when we have a lot of WR depth and needed to add pieces in other areas

To many people assume you hate a player why is their one extreme or the other when it is neither

Not at all to say he was looked at as a 3rd or 4th rd pick is accurate I would also say it is accurate to say once Dez was picked in the 1st that Dallas would not be looking at adding more WR in the draft.

I hope Shipley does well because I really like him. I was impressed with him at Texas and I hope he has a long, productive, NFL career.

Some were trying to convince us he was better than Dez before the draft. It was ridiculous.

Well those folks are just plain crazy. As much as I like Shipley there is no way I'd ever imagine trying to say he's better than Dez.

Shipley has a good career ahead of him...thought so before and still feel the same.

I assume he'll be Crayton-like or maybe a little better eventually. That's very solid but not great.

I'm in the camp that we didn't need to spend a draft pick on him though.

I like Shipley just fine.

But it is BEYOND STUPID to talk up the one kick return.

Woody Dantzler mean anything to you? Remember him? His kick returns were 100x more awesome than what Shipley put up there last night. Skyler Green? Hell... Jesse Holley returned a kick for a TD last pre-season.

That means nothing.

I would have picked in the 4th if he were still around, but no sooner than that. After getting Dez, Shipley would have been a luxury pick and not one of necessity. It would have been nice, but Dallas had other needs and plenty of options at WR.

Shipley is probably a little quicker than Crayton. He also may have an easier time adjusting to the NFL than Crayton because Patrick was switching from QB to WR and played at a small school. Jordan should be a good #3/slot guy, which can make for a long career. I don't see him as the #2 guy.

i think he will produce more TDs but less yards than wes welker, but he is going to be the chain moving clutch 3rd down receiver, and he is always going to work open when the QB is scrambling.

Palmer scrambles?

Some of Shipley's productivity is going to be tied to how effective 85 and 81 are at stretching the field and drawing coverage. After they are both gone in a year or two, who will the Bengals have to stretch the fiele? Also, Gresham will also be working underneath like Witten does for Dallas. It is difficult to predict the numbers Shipley will produce, but I think he can fit well in the role he was drafted to fit.

My dad who is a Longhorn's fan got all excited and started cheering when Shipley made that big return last night. I got mad at him. Shipley is a Bengal now, not a Longhorn and my Dad is supposed to be a Cowboy fan.
