The situation: moved to my new offices within the last month and am without Internet access. It's rather complicated. The telecom is not SBC but another "low-cost" provider. They run voice and data through a T1 line. I insisted that over $200/mo was more than I was willing to pay for Internet access at work. The service agreement reflects no internet services. (I don't upload/download huge files in the normal course of business so I have no need for highspeed access). However, I just received my first billing and I am being charged for net access and I'm told if I obtain a router and cap 5 cabling and someone to install same, I can be up and running. Well I'm sure this is true but I am still not happy with the cost of this and am in the process of attempting to have the charged removed. I'm unsure of the the eventual outcome of this.

My question to you, my fellow Cowboys fans, is do I have any lower cost alternatives to the T1 service? I can't obtain analog dial up connectivity through a digital T1 line, right??

I have contacted Comcast for broadband service but they tell me that they have to refer it to a business rep and he hasn't contacted me after a couple of weeks now. I've been told that they are not really business friendly, and so far, I find this accurate. Not sure if this viable.

If I cannot resolve the billing dispute favorably to me, who do I enlist to perform the, necessary equipment installation and wiring? A networking specialist of sorts?

Much appreciation for any helpful advice. :banghead:

My company will be offering satellite internet services at broadband speed come June...

It is 49.95 a month... unlimited access... we can offer it any where in the country, but some of our sister companies may be offering it at a more local level as there is installation of the dish and equipment involved... where are you located?

Thanks, I'll look into this. I haven't considered satellite. I wonder how the property mgt co would view that... the offices are in South Arlington.

I checked out the link and am very interested. Second qtr, huh? I'll have a little talk with the mgt of the facility to see if they have any objections to the equipment.

So my location in S Arlington is within your service area or soon will be?

Our service area covers the entire nation... so I think even S. Arlington falls into that category... ;)

It will just be a dish about the size of a standard tv dish...

I will see if some of our sister co-ops are offering WildBlue in your area...

Well you could drop down to isdn 128kb max bandwith it is two 64kb channels. It has been around forever and is a solid inbetween bandwith not as good as cable modem or dsl but better than dial up. You can also set up isdn line when you dial in to drop one line if the fun rings and you answer it and still keep a 64kb channel access up.

I am not sure of the instlation cost now days compared to years past but the average bill is about $50-$75 a month just for the line and you still have to find a provider that supports dial up but 99% of your dial services support (aol does not count because they are crap)

I will refrain from any satllite comments; but I have worked for several oil companies and we have had most type including micowave ones depending on the rig and where it was located and what you can get out there.

Goodluck

Just to update, my sales rep from the telcon called and insisted the internet charges were a mistake and will be removed. This is good news, indeed.

I'm going to take a serious look at the satellite service from wildblue. Thanks for the referral.
