I don't know how it could be a smokescreen at this point.
Furthermore it did not say that the are willing to move up for Barr. It just says they covet him more than Donald.
Again not sure how that could be a smokescreen.
Just a guess here, so keep that in mind. And let me say that in all likelyhood you would be correct about this.
However, if they let it leak out that they would want Barr over Donald then if Dallas is working the phones to move up and somebody like Chicago was dead set on getting Donald, the Bears would think that Dallas was jumping up to get Barr and not Donald. If a team that wants Donald got wind of Dallas trying to trade up, they would know that it would be for Donald and that they'd have to trade up to be able to get him. After this rumor, teams probably think it would be for Barr if both were on the board still.
It just seems to me a funny thing for them to let out a couple of days before the draft. Why would they? All it would accomplish is to give another team warning that if they wanted Barr they would need to move up in front of Dallas... just like Seattle did in 2009 with Max Unger.
Bottom line, if Dallas has a chance at both Barr and Donald and they take Barr.. then I will happily say I was wrong. Until they do though... I think it is Donald who they covet the most.
