Hill: Pickens will be at minicamp

He indicated he would, even though he may have not said those exacts words.
He said right before the draft, he planned to sign his tag contract. Which sent some fans into a tailspin.
And he did sign it, sending them into a tailspin again.
His agent did not allow him to answer that question at his youth camp, and they went into a tailspin again.

Now we will wait to see the responses today. :muttley:
If Pickens acts good and plays good this season he is rich, here or on another team. This guarantees his future monetarily going forward.

I said all along the moment he signed the franchise tag contract it was clear he would be at mandatory practices especially with the Cowboys stating publicly/clearly that they don't plan to offer him a new contract this year.

It's a huge raise for Pickens and the money he will make in next year's contract will be higher than what he would have gotten this year while even covering the difference between the franchise tag rate and the average annual salary his new contract will have.

I fully expected him to be fine with the franchise tag this year, but I firmly believe he won't be next year, nor should he.

Next year the leverage will shift back to his side (rolling 5-year average surges next year for receiver) and he and his agent should and will use it.

If he has another great year though then he will deserve a 4-5 year contract offer either from the Cowboys or another team.

People let the media drive the narrative about Pickens despite the fact he came in, practiced and played hard, helped the team win games it would have not won without him and did his job.

Then this off-season, despite the media's constant attention on his contract and the media instigating a lot of negativity in fans toward his situation by making predictions, claims, etc. that never happened nor would end up happening, he's handled everything better than most players would have.

I'm not a Pickens fan or hater, but you have to respect the way he has handled himself on and off the field since he got here.

If both of those things continue in 2026, he deserves that huge contract he will get next year whether that's with the Cowboys or another team willing to commit to him.
Yes on all of it. I actually didn’t realize he signed the tag. That changes things.

He'd be stupid to sign that.

If he ends up close to 1,000 yards this year, he'd be underpaid by almost $20m.

Not to mention the fact that you end up with the same situation you're in now with Pickens in 2028.
That's right Flournoy is a solid number 2 or 3 depending on Pickens being here,he will get paid.

IMHO all this banter in between is useless...he's going to likely advocate for himself to get the most he can financially/stability, as he should. I don't see many ppl giving discounts on their market value just "because." At least not where I have worked, people I have known, etc.

He'll probaby do what is needed to look good, avoid injury and fines, and then the circus the Jones' love about media obsession will have them keg standing coors on the Bravo Eugenia. Rinse repeat.

Again, why did the media try to turn this into drama?

Pickens SIGNED the TAG.

If he wanted to hold out, why would he voluntarily opt into fines by signing it????
The media didn’t turn this into an issue here. we did that just fine on our own.

Some fans just root for negative stuff and, of course, they encourage the media to chase that, and vice versa,

We have some regulars who have been rooting against GP from the day of the trade.

Most of us expected he’d show up, though some wanted to turn it into a bigger story.

We don’t know how much he’ll actually participate in practices, but that’s not really a concern, most of it is just walkthroughs, jogging, and working with cords, nothing too intense.

So why wouldn’t he take part?

Some are trying to compare this to what happened with Parsons, who also showed up but mocked the situation by bringing food to practice, lounging on tables, pouting, and displaying bad posture, it was all a mess.

I don’t see George doing anything like that, but certain people seem to want that kind of drama because they enjoy those stories. Still, credit to George Pickens for showing up and shutting down any negative narratives about his current situation.

According to this, GP was at, or is at The Star today, for his physical.

https://www.dallascowboys.com/news/...e-headlines-three-things-to-watch-at-minicamp

" On Monday, multiple reports indicate that Pickens is in the Cowboys' facility for his physical and will take part in Dallas' three-day minicamp."
"If Pickens is in attendance on Tuesday, then the question changes. What, and how much, will he do on the field?

Schottenheimer said last week that the team will be cautious with his workload in order to avoid injury.
"I have no questions he's working, but what you don't want to do is put a guy in here that you don't know exactly where he's at..." Schottenheimer said. "We'll be smart, but there's plenty of things he can do from the mocks to the walkthroughs to get him back into the system. If we're cautious, it's just because we want to be cautious. It's not because we don't think he's not working. We think he's putting in the work, preparing to have a hell of a year."

Exactly. The second Pickens signed the tag he told the world he would show up. It’s the hold in we need to be watching out for, not the hold out.

Pickens doesn't have to be at mini camp. It's great that he is but it's not a big deal if not.

It's a restricted free agent tender with an emphasis on "restricted". Whatever the tender, that is what you get unless a long term deal is signed. If another team wants to sign him long term then they would have to give up the draft pick associated with the tender used.
Yes I know. Flournoy shouldn't sign it.

How is he being a Diva?
Sorry. I was unclear. I was simply stating that the news that he would be attending minicamp is not earth-shattering

He would gain nothing if he decided to be a diva and holdout.

His best play is to be a good soldier and ball out and that puts all the pressure on Dallas to get a deal done and raises his market value in general

I read he’s already there for his physical today.
Being there and actually participating in everything is a different question.
His money is guaranteed, every penny. So if he doesn’t do everything or if he doesn’t go hard, that’s just because he wants the team to know he’s still not happy.

That doesn't help him. He'll just look like a malcontent and hurt his own market value for next year. Wouldn't shock me if he came up with a 2 week hamstring injury in camp, but hell be out there week one
