Hill: Pickens will be at minicamp

I read he’s already there for his physical today.
Being there and actually participating in everything is a different question.
His money is guaranteed, every penny. So if he doesn’t do everything or if he doesn’t go hard, that’s just because he wants the team to know he’s still not happy.
Schottenheimer already said they’ll take some time with him to assess his conditioning since he wasn’t at OTAs

His level of “participation” that you’re requiring at minicamp isn’t really a thing as many players are doing different things

I know people are rooting for drama and looking for reasons to discredit him but considering he’s on a franchise tag, and was prohibited by league rules from attending off season conditioning sessions with the team when he wasn’t under contract, simply attending minicamps is sufficient.

He’ll be there. Embrace the positive.
Im actually not worried one bit if Curious George shows up for this....im more concerned that he might develop alligator arms in a "franchise tag season"catching passes over the middle

Yep, right move. He needs to prove he isn’t an off the field problem, and being the age he is, he can certainly survive one year on a tag and get the bag…if he also behaves.

If they try to tag him again, and aren’t offering him a fair deal, then I’ll side with him.

For now this works for both sides, and even if he is only here for this season, the two we got out of him was well worth the cost.

I’m figuring they will draft a WR in the first that’s ready to be a 2 immediately, and the Pickens money can be allocated elsewhere. If this is/was the overall plan, I fully agree and it was a good one. That within itself is rare.
I didn't see the possibility of him not showing up for minicamp as necessary to prove he isn't an off-the-field problem. The negotiation window for the tag closes July 15, so until then, whatever he and his team do to try to force negotiations wouldn't be seen as an issue by other teams. It would just be seen as business.

Now, if he sat out anything after July 15, then his behavior could be questioned.

I don’t worry about that until it happens.

No, not that alone. In fact I posted that neither the team nor him should take that risk.

You know what I mean. Pittsburgh sold low because of supposed off the field issues, and if someone is going to invest like 5/150 on him, they are likely to want to be convinced that’s behind him.

Dallas is playing the system and sort of using him, but he can also use Dallas. Could work out for each.

I strongly believe George Pickens is the present and the future at #2. George Pickens complements CeeDee perfectly. With both on the field, our receiving crew is unstoppable. No other WR can complement CeeDee as well as Pickens does. Yes, it sucks having to pay both mid 30s millions each, but it is worth it if they help us reach at least an NFC Championship Game this year. I believe that is the plan (test) for the tag this year. If George Pickens teamed up with CeeDee helps our team reach at least an NFC Championship Game, I strongly believe Jerry will find a way to keep George Pickens here for the long term, even if it means sacrificing big pay at other positions.

They try oh so hard to create drama and clicks about this.

It’s just so obvious.
I understand their motivation but,,, really, the absurdity of it all. It's at the point that they've become gremlins, trying to sabotage and create conflict anywhere they can.

The issue isn’t about him attending. The concern should be about him participating. Micah attended all required activities.
This is the part I wanted to dig into.

Is there any benefit to him being at camp, but sitting out of competitive drills?

I am focusing on his agent and wondering what is in the best interest of George according to his agent.

Right. Missing camp would have been a bad look for him coming off Pittsburgh getting rid of him for cheap because of its issues with him. I just think the minicamp stuff is overblown. Whether he's there or misses doesn't mean much other than to fans who want to wring their hands over it. It's a common ploy used by players who have been franchised tagged. Even though Pickens has signed his tag, that doesn't mean he can't negotiate a long-term deal with the team before July 15, so I wouldn't blame his agent for trying to use the only leverage he has.

Of course, the Joneses have been clear that they are not interested in doing a deal this year, so it's really not much leverage for him to sit out the minicamp, which is why he will probably be there. The only other hand Pickens and his agent have is trying to force a trade and both of them know that could get ugly and Pickens doesn't need ugly.

Nah not at all. If he never worked with Dak before Id feel differently, but they are fine even if they don’t see each other until in North Jersey in September, which it won’t come to if he actually did sign the tag.

I can certainly get on board with that plan. It’s doable under the cap. Let’s play a year of football first and see how we feel then,

I am going to need to see a direct quote Pickens saying he would be here.
If he wasn’t planning to attend he could have simply not signed the tag. He couldn’t be fined. He could have simply shown up for the first game and start playing. He’d be paid in full.

Signing the tag was indication he planned to attend mandatory team activities.

To my way of thinking the Steelers still haven’t straightened out the QB situation to fully utilize Pickens he’s much better off as a Cowboy . Having said that given the offense that was here last season the Steelers and not Dallas made the playoffs .

This organization cannot go one and done in the playoffs in 26 that’s totally unacceptable. Not making the playoffs and the HC won’t survive . I’m looking for ar least divisional round playoffs hopefully more. Pickens one of Jerry’s best trades ever .

The conditioning stuff is the only thing that concerns me. It seems to me there are an inordinate amount of soft tissue injuries for players who don't work up to the season. The conditioning stuff the team does and the OTAs might not mean much as far as working on the connection between Dak and Pickens, and the things they do certainly can be emulated and even surpassed by players who don't attend. It just seems like too often that players who miss these things come up with a hamstring pull or other injury.

IMHO all this banter in between is useless...he's going to likely advocate for himself to get the most he can financially/stability, as he should. I don't see many ppl giving discounts on their market value just "because." At least not where I have worked, people I have known, etc.

He'll probaby do what is needed to look good, avoid injury and fines, and then the circus the Jones' love about media obsession will have them keg standing coors on the Bravo Eugenia. Rinse repeat.
If getting 27 mil doesn't give him financial stability, there is something definitely wrong with his lifestyle choices.

Fans defend Jerry’s penny pinching daily on this board, as if his future depends on it, and he’s worth $20b.
