History and the Saints

I'm Hoping that history doesn't repeat itself. The New Orleans Saints of this season (2009-2010) reminds me of the San Francisco 49ers of the 1981-'82 season. At that time in '81 the 49ers hadn't won a super bowl, same as the '09 Saints. During the season of '81 Dallas went to San Francisco and lost 45-15, later that season lost in the NFC Championship game by the now famous
"THE CATCH" by Dwight Clark 28-27. This started the 49ers on their super bowl run. Remember we play New Orleans at the Super Dome, December 19th.
The quarterback for the 49ers was JOE MONTANA, the quarterback for the New Orleans Saints is Drew Brees. See the same exact situation on the road both times (possibly) with very good quarterbacks. I am all for Dallas being in
NFC Championship Game but have this feeling that History is repeating itself.

I cannot understand all the Saints threads when we face the Giants this week. It's like the next 2 weeks are wholly unimportant to Cowboys fans.

I am the exact opposite. I will care about the Saints when they are next for the hit parade.

Why? "Long-suffering franchise/city wins title" would make for a nice story. Of course, it would also apply to the Vikings, I guess.

No, it wouldn't apply to the Vikings because they have played in a super bowl and we don't play them during the season. I was making a comparison on how we play a role when the 49ers won their first super bowl.

Drew Brees is 31, there is not enough time for him to be Joe Montana.

I can understand the Saints game is two weeks away, and to me every game is important. The team has to be focused on one game at a time not the fans.
However, I am a Cowboys fan living in Louisiana amongst Saints fans; it's unreal the heat I take at work.

what difference does that make?

Pretty sure we'll only play the Saints once this year, so don't worry about history repeating itself.

I would be totally fine with losing in the NFC Championship.

It'd be terrible to lose to a team with a "fan"base like the Saints, but an NFC championship appearance will mean we won 2 playoff games basically. I'd be thrilled to win two playoff games this year.

Who will lose Dallas or New Orleans, I'm optimistic that there will be two games.

I would not at all be surprised if the Saints stumbled this week against the Commanders. They have struggled against teams they should beat easily (like the Rams) so I would not be surprised to see them either lose or have to pull out a win against the Commanders.

Yea, what’s the deal? Reminds me of when i was scouting the Falcon message board the week we played them. They were more interested in talking about playing the Saints then the Cowboys. And they ended up losing both games.

14 years is too long for this city of Dallas too. So throw us in the long suffering franchise....
