Newman should've called for a fair catch on that play. The punt was short and he was running into the teeth of the coverage. When you do that, you're usually going to pay the price.

I'm afraid all the local media's "Newman's reputation is on the line for this game" nonsense got into his head and he tried to make a play that he shouldn't have.

Looked like the ball was going out of bounds anyway and you make a good point that is was silly to try and catch it.

I didn't have a problem with the hit. It was the crap after the hit that had me fired up. I seriously wouldn't have cared if someone started a melee in that situation. Teammates first.

He could of knocked him out with a shoulder though and he lead with his helmet. It was no different than Spears throwing a shoulder when it wasn't necessary.

I may be wrong but leading with the helmet like that and both players running at each other could of hurt someone. It would be different is Newman saw him but he didn't.

the problem to me really isn't the hit, it was who delivered the hit, if it would have been Roy, Lynch, Woody, or Harrison it would have been a penalty and/or a fine afterwards.

And also in today's NFL a penalty for taunting very rarely gets called, if it was stictly enforced like it should be at times then it could get called on about 80% of the time after plays.

Actually I labeled the skins game a trap game and honestly thought we would lose it.

Maybe not insulting people will lead to people not questioning some of the things that come from your fingertips to my computer screen.

I have never really liked the idea of Newman returning punts...He hasn't run one back for anything special and it is just not worth the risk. That hit just ilistrates my point. Where would we be if that had put him out for the game? As it was it had him befuddled so that he gave up his first TD in a season and a half.
