if only the would
I do wonder if a Safety with some size like Frazier at 215 pounds would be much different against the run than Jaylon and he would definitely be better in pass coverage than Jaylon.

Even in general I'm surprised we don't see more Dime defense in the NFL considering the emphasis on passing.

Lee won't play. Hitchens will.

We can't catch a break.
We've actually caught a lot of breaks injury wise the last few years. The team we lost to last year in the playoffs and the team that won the Super Bowl had more injuries than us but that didn't stop them. Losing one player shouldn't wreck your entire unit but that's the case here since we're built on a shaky foundation. Frustrating that in 2017 we're still this reliant on a 31 yr old Sean Lee.

at this point, with the bye week next, G.Bay not a run-focus team........I'd say rest S.Lee and get him hopefully full healthy

Lee is just as important in pass defense...maybe more so.

That said...hamstrings can re-injur easily and then linger. Tough call.

Jaylon can't cover right now, and in all reality really wasn't good at it at ND fully healthy. Very scary.
Sorry to be argumentative, but Jaylon was terrific in coverage in college.

He often lined up in man coverage on slot WRs. That's very rare for a college LB.

Maybe the best over 235 pounds coverage player in the history of college football.

Jaylon Smith needs a lot of one-on-one with Sean Lee for coverage skills.

A friendly discussion! I watched a lot of him and I thought that was his worst attribute X. Rushing the passer and sideline to sideline was his game.

Gotta think they try to get Cobb out of backfeild on our Lb'rs like Rams did..........

Where I lean towards X-Woods and maybe even Az-bi, seems to exhibit the instincts to smell those schemes out much better than Heath thruout college and even pre-season.
Last week they basically treated the TE as a WR. That put them in Nickel when they would normally be in base and Dime when they would normally be in Nickel.

Doing that against GB gives them two CB types (Jones and slot CB) down low to use in different coverages against Cobb.

With Jones down they used Heath, Frazier and Woods as the 2-deep Safeties. There was a full series where Heath was out and Woods/Frazier were together deep the rest of the time Woods/Frazier rotated at the spot opposite Heath.

You might have gotten that impression because they had him in man coverage against WRs that coaches would never cover with other LBs or even Safeties.

In the modern NFL it would be insane to ever rate a LB as a top 10 draft pick if he is not terrific in coverage.

How the heck is Hitchens back already? Didn't we IR him. Isn't that 8 games?

I just hope we get to see that Jaylon sometime in the near future. I have my doubts unfortunately. I would like to see him at least rush the passer soon at least.

It's hard to believe his leg will get that much better. There were some mentions about possible surgical options if the nerve never completely healed on it's own. I'm starting to wonder if those claims were true.

i really like this look but use Chido for Fraizer
and i like the idea move Fraizer to linebacker give him small package at first
we really need linebackers next year
Damien is going to be suspended for games and Hitchens is FA Lee is getting older, will be even harder to stay healthy
Jaylon is a big question for a while more

If they don't draft one early, I would look at coverage LBs in the mid-rounds that fall in the draft due to size. There often seem to be some LBs around 6-1, 225 that go later than you might expect.

Wilson has been decent as a 4th rounder but SLBs only play about 15% of the snaps.

Hitchens has been great as a 4th round pick but has limited coverage range. Hitchens in base with a coverage LB replacing him in obvious passing situations would be a good combo.

In regards to Awuzie, I expect them to work him in slowly unless other injuries force the issue.
