Hitchens - Was he a good draft pick?

The Hitchens pick was much criticized here both at the time and continuing for a few years.

He was a 4th round pick.

Rate the pick.

Would you be OK with a Hitchens clone in the 4th again?

Is @Risen Star still saying Hitchens is not a legit NFL player?

I found Hitchens a very limited serviceable player, he's an in the box type player who is good moving forward, other than that, he's just a guy IMO...

Lol. Yeah, I think when you get a guy who goes on to get a $45MM deal in the 4th round you can be satisfied with the pick in retrospect.

The lesson here is to actually see the players on the field before you decide you're 100% certain they're going to suck and the front office is clueless. Of course, none of us will learn that lesson.

He was a good pick, and I wish he was still on our team. Like most free agents he was overpaid.

Great player for a 4th rounder, factor in the fact that we usually forfeit a 2nd rounder every year on a high risk/return player, any time we have a contribtion from our 4th rounder is a win.

A, given a 4th round pick and a starter, fantastic draft pick.
the chance of a 4th round lb becoming a starter is pretty low, <<50%

I think more than half the posters here learned that lesson long ago, and the vast majority here wouldn't spend months arguing about a 4th round pick just because they hadn't read much about the pick prior to the draft.

If they hadn't picked up the flag then he would have been a bad pick.

Backup players should play as a matter of course. Other players can use a rest, and they can use the development. Simply knowing that you're going to play will spur your diligence in preparation during the week. It might also spur the starters with a little competition.

It's not just figuring out who can play, although it's certainly that too. It's developing the team.
