For my own therapy.....I have to do this. I realize this is long, but....I am so sick of being in Charlotte and hearing about how good the Panthers are. FACTS. First, Dallas has played a much tougher schedule. That is not up for debate. Panther opponents are 84-112, and that gives them a break that Minnesota somehow turned their season around, but at the time they played they were 2-5 and in disaster mode right off the ship. Cowboy opponents are 102-94. Panthers are 2 games better that us in the standings keep in mind. Let's run down the list of the future Hall of Fame QB's that the Panthers have been able to feast on this year: Fiedler, Brooks, Whoever was the QB at AZ, McKown/Whatever, Orton who is so bad the coach benches him when they are winning a game and their record is 10-4, Harington, Cullpepper/Johnson 1st game, Simms FIRST game, Bollinger, Losman, Bauman.....IS THIS THE ARENA LEAGUE OR WHAT?

On the other hand who have we played, McNabb before he was injured, Breese, Eli Manning(2), Brunnell(2), Trent Green, Plumber, Hasslebeck. All could go to the Pro Bowl.

Now, the Panthers are 10-4, and the Boys are 8-6. Do you not think that if we could replace say Denver and KC with The Jets and Bills that we could be sitting at 10-4 as well? I know, I know, you play who you play, but the point is that the Panthers for all their 10-4 record brings them... HOW GOOD ARE THEY? Peppers disapears for games at a time, Can they run the ball, do they EVER throw to the tight end, can all of Jake's jump balls continue to be caught by Steve Smith, their very nature suggests to me that they are going to keep teams in games simply by being conservative. Are the Panthers really that much better than the Cowboys? We tend to remember the last game played, and it was an obvious embarrassment by us against the Skins, but had we played the week before the rolls were reversed if you remember. Panthers got beat down by the Bucks AT HOME, and Dallas beat KC. Did beating the Saints, and by the way had the right call been made on the OBVIOUS lateral the Panthers would have been down 14-7 late in the 2nd quarter of that game, give Panther fans a shot in the arm by beating another in the long line of NFL Europe quarterbacks this year? The reality is most likely that the Panthers should win a close game this week, and get in the playoffs by playing a CRAP schedule full of CRAP quarterbacks while Dallas probably will be watching at home after playing exciting game after exciting game against real NFL talent.

So, I ask you based on the facts of their schedule, and the quarterback competition that they have played??? HOW GOOD ARE THE PANTHERS? Does anyone know?

The panthers aren't that good, nobody in the South is really. But, if we play anything close to how we have on the road the past 5 games or so, it will be a tough game. The Cowboys SHOULD win, and I think they will, but it's hard to have much confidence with what they've shown.

Weak schedules really do make teams vulnerable come the end of the season and the playoffs....which is why I also see Indy having problems in the playoffs. If you look at the teams that they played that are going to be in the playoffs, they didn't fare TOO well. I think Cincy can beat Indy in the playoffs.

One of the only things that we have going for us IS our strength of schedule....we "seemingly" are more accustomed to tough games. Are the Panthers? Probably not, however, some teams play up to their level of competition. Are the Panthers one of those teams? We'll see.

Seeing how we have performed recently, I still don't have too much if any confidence in this team.

We have to blitz Jake and make him throw picks like the Detroit and Bears games. Usually, the teams that they play are so bad it doesn't come back to haunt them. The ONLY receiver he looks to is 89. We have to put a safety over the top, and hope we can cover the other hack they have one on one. They can't run the ball so we should be able to be in it at the end, and that is all we have been doing all year. Maybe, we win another close one. I pray we do. I can't listen to another year of the Panthers beating us in Charlotte.

boy, you greatly underestimate carolina

you fail to neglect the fact that they have the #2 defense (w/ to very good pass rushing DEs against our...excuses for tackles) and the most exciting player in the NFL on offense in steve smith

their very nature suggests to me that they are going to keep teams in games simply by being conservative

HELLO! where have i heard that before?

I agree since I have to hear about it non stop that they have a good D, but would it be so good playing against the AFC West as opposed to QB's like Orton, Bollinger, Losman, Bauman? Talk about NFL Europe? Where would our D rank if we could play the sorry Bears offense, Jets, Saints, Bills. Would love to have seen Carolina play KC, SD, Denver to expose Mike Minter at safety since everyone on the planet wants to knock Roy for his cover skills. They have 2 DE that are banged up, and they do have 2 really good corners. Brenson Buckner scare anyone, Jordan Carstens? I'm only saying that they caught a HUGE break with playing inept offenses in the AFC East and NFC North this year.

On some Panthers message board, there is a fellow saying "Jason Ferguson scare anyone, LaRoi Glover?"

Their defense is at least as good as ours is. Their offense is superior because they can protect their QB a little better and Steve Smith is more of a weapon than Glenn and Johnson combined.

Are they the Super Bowl-hyped team of a few weeks ago? No. But they are more than a match for our team. It should be a close game, but aren't they all?

One thing's for certain: playing Denver, @NYG, KC, @Wash and @Carolina IN A ROW after starting 7-3 is not the best schedule to play. They are a combined 47-23.

Bledsoe won't be playing against crap qb's in Carolina, he'll be playing against one of the better front fours in football, that's where we struggle at. We don't have the line to give him all day to find a receiver like Peyton does. He's going to have to step up at some point and make good decisions such as checking down to his alternates instead holding the ball too long and throwing the ball away if no one is open.

It is really interesting to me how once someone or a team gets a reputation how it sticks. Carolina's front 4 was good 2 years ago. Since then Kris Jenkins has been out, and fat Buckner, and Jordan Carstens aren't the same caliber of players. They do have 2 really good ends when they come and play, but Peppers for all his spectacular plays has 7 1/2 sacks, and didn't get his first sack until sometime in the middle of October. Rucker isn't 100%, and neither is Peppers. However, Carolina has been able to plug some of the Dline holes with great linebacker play this year.

I could've sworn we already exhausted this argument in another thread. I remember in 03 when we went to the Super Bowl, everyone was talking about how we were squeeking out wins against bad teams. I also remember beating Dallas, St. Louis and Philadelphia in the play-offs and then barely losing the Super Bowl in the last seconds against the best team in football.

This Panthers team actually has better talent than the 03 team.

Underestimate us at your own peril!

alan, you should send this breakdown to Packman at WFNZ. Even though he's on vacation, they would talk about this for hours since they are anti-Dallas 365 days of the year (except for the 2 yahoos in the studio). Edit: Just read the other thread, and saw that you DID send this to FNZ.:

The Panthers' offense really doesn't scare me too much. 2 players are dangerous...Steve Smith and Deshaun Foster, and Foster more as a receiver out of the backfield as opposed to rushing the ball. I haven't seen enough of Drew Carter to know if he will be a threat or not, but he is fast and has good size. Mangum is under-utilized, but he's good for a catch or 2 per game, if Jake will even look at him.

Now, on defense, that's where I'm concerned. As much as the loss of Jenkins hurt the front 7, Karstens is at least serviceable, and he does have moments. Against our O line, he'll likely look like an All Pro, especially if we try to help out with Rucker and Peppers on the ends. Even at 75%, Torin Tucker, and Pettiti to some extent, are overmatched.

Hopefully this is a better game than the last several trips to Charlotte for the Boys (preseason excluded). I'm just upset I won't be at the game (stupid back surgery :bang2: )

Again, I never said the Panthers hadn't beaten ANY good opposing quarterbacks this year. I was simply pointing out that they played a HUGE number of teams with backup quarterbacks starting which in my opinion....is why their defensive numbers are inflated.

Obviously, you guys don't know much about the NFC South. Just because we don't get the national coverage that the East gets, doesn't mean we are a cream puff division. Ya'll might be a higher scoring division, but in the South, it's all about defense. Expect a very physical game from the Panthers.

Tucker and Petitti will be our demise - as long as the panthers throw to the middle of the field and run sweeps, they can beat us hands down.

We are a year away from bullying people - this isn't our year.

Thank You. I had just about lost all hope of us pulling out a win. I would not go so far as to say I now expect it, but I now see how and why they have lost a couple of home games recently that I thought they'd win.

My faith has been renewed and now look forward to a competitve game and just hope the football gods are smiling down on us!

BTW - I am convinced we do get in the playoffs with a win here. Very confident that the Skins go down to NYG this weekend.
