Next update has in depth analysis and possible trades.
Rd 2 (#51): Duke Robinson OG Oklahoma
My one consistent pick as I update. Not only do I believe he the best OG in the draft but he is the best OL in the draft and will be a staple in the OL for the next 10 years. He could instantly challenge Kosier for the starting spot.
Rd 3 (#69): Sherrod Martin CB/FS Troy
It's debatable if he is a CB or FS but with the Cowboys seemingly looking to fill the star position and make the DB's interchangeable Martin fits the mold of what they are looking for. Very effective as a gunner on special teams in college. My only two concerns is that he has had shoulder problems in the past and he turned 24 this last season.
Rd 4 (#101): Jason Williams OLB Western Illinois
Depth at LB is needed and I believe Carpenter will be traded before the draft is over and I'm not sure Greg Ellis will not be shipped or released as well. Williams is a play maker. Was ranked in the top 50 in the nation in tackles for loss, total tackles and sacks. Rising up the draft boards fast and could work his way into the 3rd round.
Rd 4 (#117): Jason Phillips ILB Texas Christian
Staying with the LB's in round 4 and the Jason's the Cowboys look to add depth inside as well. Phillips stock has dropped a little since announcing he tore a meniscus at the combine and will be out 6-8 weeks but all accounts are he should be ready for training camp. He has the size to play inside and the frame to add more weight. Has shown the ability to be very effective in coverage.
Rd 5 (#156): Joel Bell OT Furman
The Cowboys need to address depth and future along the OL in this draft and having already grabbed an OG they look to the OT position. Bell is another late riser having great work outs recently. Has the size your looking for and can add more weight. Very athletic and many believe he could be a LT at the next level with a little development.
Rd 5 (#166): Mike Wallace WR Mississippi
I don't believe Dallas will look to add a WR till the middle of day 2 unless a player really drops. Wallace has amazing speed and good size. Route running is a little concern but put some of that to rest at his pro day by showing crisp routes and hinting that he will be working with Jerry Rice in the next few weeks to improve this aspect of his game.
Rd 5 (#172): Tony Fiammetta FB Syracuse
One of the true blocking FB's in this draft. Underrated as a receiver. Dallas may be looking to strike gold twice in a FB from Syracuse but more then that, finding an upgrade to Cricket and someone that can help them with the new "wedge" rules on kickoff's is important.
Rd 6 (#197): Dallas Reynolds C/OG BYU
Versatility is key with Reynolds. He may be a little to big to play C at the next level but he can as well as slide to OG or even OT if need be. Again, Dallas looks to upgrade the depth and add to the future of this OL. Reynolds along with Bell and Robinson all could easily be starting along the OL in the next 2 years.
Rd 6 (#208): John Phillips TE Virginia
TE is not exactly whit you expect to see from a team that has Witten and Bennett but Dallas likes to carry 3 TE's and I'm not sure Hannah is much more then a life long project. Dallas has shown significant interest in Phillips and while he is not going to stretch the field for you he offers sure hands and more then adequate blocking skills. He also is a very solid special teams guy.
Rd 7 (#210): Ra'Shon Harris DT Oregon
I don't believe the Cowboys feel DT is as big of a need as the fans do and while they have been showing some interest in some early round prospects Harris is a guy that they always seem to be around. At his Pro Day Harris added 5 pounds to put him at at 302 but still kept his amazing agility running between 4.88 and 5.04. Harris has great strength and consistently faced double teams at Oregon. While he does not rack up the sack numbers he has shown the ability to collapse the pocket consistently.
Rd 7 (#227): Julian Edelman QB/WR Kent St
I'll admit, this is a bit of "pet" pick after reading some threads in here and doing some research. It's also a bit of hoping Jerry will not go out of his way to feed his "wild cat" desires. Julian actually offers more then a gimmick and while he may not posses the skill set to be a full time QB on the next level I do believe he could challenge for the 5th WR spot and offer Jerry the opportunity to get his "wild cat" side out.
Rip away........
