As Dak Prescott succeeds, Bill Parcells' words should be heeded

FRISCO, Texas -- Romomentum was never higher in 2006 than on Thanksgiving.

Tony Romo threw five touchdown passes in a 38-10 win against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Nov. 23, 2006. The Dallas Cowboys had won four of Romo’s first five starts. As exciting as the 2003 turnaround was, this was something altogether different.

But Bill Parcells wanted everybody to take a breath.....

Let Dak play, let him learn, film, classes, coaches, cant teach him this stuff. Lets see him take sacks, play bigger defenses, let him lose, let him thrive to win, let that field educate him, Play him and find out what we got. Make those throws, ram EE down their throats, let him see what he sees and become who he will become. The talk is over, the classes are over, the numbers wont help him. Tell me how great Jamarcus Russell is, tell me how Ryan Leaf panned out, the numbers and classes can not help Dak now, push him out there and let him fly. I want to see what we got. Holding him back is not going to help.

Also remember Brady wally pipping Drew Bledsoe. They were talking about this on Arizona Sports Radio and said Dak is off to a better start than Brady. Just saying...

The Cowboys lost 4 of 5 because Parcells' offensive game plan/style, stunk, imo. Painfully boring football to watch. Brutal.

i hated that jaguar, dont know if it was the first game of the season or what, but for the first half we held the Jaguar to 50 yards or something like that and still lost

Only have a few concerns with Dak and make me tap the brakes a little.

3 fumbles in 2 games
throwing a pick on the wrong end of the field
Not throwing downfield when WR's have been open. We haven't needed those throws much because we've been in control but that time will come when we need it.
Defenses are getting tape on Dak and will be more prepared for him

Other than that he has been outstanding. Best rookie QB by far and playing like a top 10 qb.

Dak's gonna be fine.

Keep in mind, RG3 had a higher QB rating his rookie season before falling apart. However, Dak is built more sturdily, and has much more of an NFL mind and willingness to work from the pocket.

And Romo is a far better QB than Bledsoe.

For Dak to supplant Romo he needs to be exceptional, not efficient.

And not exceptional "for a rookie." Exceptional, period.

I think that is the difference. Guys like RGIII and even Michael Vick where runners playing QB and would take off quickly. Dak even when being flushed from the pocket is looking down the field. he will tuck and run but by and large he keeping the play alive and looking for his targets.

Frankly when he came to Dallas after watching a lot of his games at Miss St. I expected him to be just another running QB but he is showing he is more than that.

The flipside is that for Romo to supplant Dak, he needs to be able to stay healthy.

I'd love to be wrong, but historically players in Romo's position (injury history, age) usually can't.

You forgot, let the fans backlash and call him a bust once things stop rolling like they are. Let the angry trade demands flourish as they always do with current Cowboys players. Let those trade demands be unrealistic, let them be crazy and hair-brained, and utterly pointless. Let the world crazies have at Dak like he is a pariah.

I predict this to happen. Mark my words, it *IS* going to happen at some point in the future.

Hey, lets trade Romo!
