Holland over Proctor?

This is the first time I've been on the site since the game, so take it easy on me. Does anyone know if Montrae Holland will be ready to play this week over Cory Proctor? It was so obvious where the weak link was on the offensive line, and we were very lucky it wasn't against a really great pass rushing team.

I would even prefer giving Doug Free a shot at RG before putting Proctor in there again. If this is the best we got in our interior backup spot, we know where to target in the 2009 NFL draft. We have to do better than what we have now.

I think the consensus is many people hope Holland will start, but we just aren't sure at this point.

Indeed the Eagles have a much better pass rush than C-town, so plugging that hole is of utmost importance. Welcome back!

This is my feeling. Weren't those two HUGE DT's suppose to crush him in pass blocking and run blocking? From what I remember they really only blew him up a couple times, which isn't bad given he was making his first start.

If we stick Free in at RG i think i will have to kill our coaching staff.

No one replaces "Bigg" Davis

I agree with you, he did hold his ground for the most part. The entire line was very impressove to me, however, if I do feel that if Holland is ready then he will get the nod over Procter. From my understanding Holland is one with a high motor and a swagger when he plays and believe me we look for that in a lineman.

Yeah I dont have an issue with Holland playing instead. I just think this notion that he has to cause Proctor was some how not good, or horrible, is completely off base.

I think it comes down to whether Holland feels comfortable as of yet with the playbook and getting a "feel" for the offensive linemen around him.

Cory Procter will get another start

Wade Phillips confirmed that Cory Procter would start at left guard for the second consecutive game.

Procter (6-4, 308) did not have any blown assignments in the win over the Browns. He got overpowered a few times by NT Shaun Rogers, but that tends to happen when you're butting heads with a 6-4, 350-pound dude.

"He's going to have some physical battles certainly," Phillips said. "He's not the biggest guy, but he will battle you. Part of why we have him is he is real smart. He can call protections himself. I think that's a good reason for him to play."

Those couple of times got Romo creamed. It wasn't that he beat Proctor, but that he beat him so quickly that Romo had no chance to protect himself.

I don't know anything about Holland...can someone give me the scoop on him? I thought Procter did a nice job in his first start...I give him another start.

Just curious as to the hype on Holland.

Don't have much 'scoop', but he's a big bodied (fatty) type guard that works well in a Houck type offensive line. He's experienced. I believe he started 16 games for Denver last year, and most think he's the safest bet while Kosier is out....and we got him cheap.

That being said, Proctor did much better than I thought he would last week. He's no permanent solution, and he still makes me nervous while protecting Romo, but he gets a passing grade.

the line did play well, but Romo was sacked (penalty nullified it), but it was by Robaire Smith, who was lined up opposite our LG...

BUT...still, overall, the line, including Procter, were solid

I say wait till after the GB game to replace Proctor with anyone other than Kosier.

Kosier won't be ready to return that early.

that was my point. Kosier is the starter...so unless he is ready to return, just leave Proctor there at least for the first 3 games. Proctor knows our system, plus Philly and GB will try to put tons of pressure on Romo.

After the GB game, we should evaluate how far Holland has progressed, as well as how Proctor played. Then we can either keep Proctor in the starting lineup or replace him with Holland.

Maybe we WERE watching a different game, because in the game I watched, Shaun Rogers looked like an All-Pro on several occasions. He was all over the field, creating havoc. Sure, there were many times he was shut down, but that was only because the other OLs were doing so well, they could afford to give Proctor help.

I am not the only person who believes that our interior backup support is in need of an upgrade. Even when Kosier is in there, HE is the weakest link. We need to not get to the point where we say, "Oh, well, 4 out of 5 aint bad". We need to find someone better than Kosier, then find a backup better than Proctor.

Holland will replace Kosier and Kosier becomes the primary guard back up.
