It was not a designed throwaway. Schottenheimer advised him to throw it away if his first read was not immediately open. His first read was coverage on George Pickens. He judged Pickens was not open.

Would every quarterback have come to the same split-second conclusion? If there was a difference of opinion in that split-second, could another quarterback, with the necessary timing, accuracy, and arm strength, have successfully made that throw without getting intercepted or throw Pickens a non-catchable pass? Those are the questions that will forever go unanswered.

Agreed.

Except I do think there are several...if not many...QBs that would throw that to one of their star receivers. Keenum would have done it in a heartbeat.

Exactly, if the call is dumb, and you're a veteran QB, do something better. They're not going to cut you at $60 mil a year. And chances are, it'll be better and make the coach look good. Sometimes, a QB has to bail out his coach.
