Not a sexy pickup, but at 330lbs could spell Ratliff for a series or 2 during games....

Is he a significant upgrade to Jr. Siavii or Tim Anderson? Both of whom are in the 330 range as well.

And why would the Saints, who are absolutely hurting on D, let go anyone who can play?

Because some players play better in other Schemes!

Why did the Raiders trade Moss for a 4th.
Why didn't the 49ers or Falcons resign Deion.

Sometimes players either cost to much other times players just don't fit their scheme......

Look at Seattle they franchise Leroy Hill this off season and they took it back and he's a free agent. he went from franchise player to FA within 2 months.......
Another example, we might cut Ellis, even though he still has a little football in him. People will say who wants Ellis, why did Dallas cut him. Salary, age and scheme could be part of all cuts....

Because of his 1.9 M dollar cap number, and they are cap-strapped.

Really? That's an awful small cap hit to be worrying about.

Saints release veteran DT Thomas after three seasons

Associated Press

METAIRIE, La. -- The New Orleans Saints have released veteran defensive tackle Hollis Thomas, the team announced Wednesday.
Hollis Thomas, DT

Age: 35
Height: 6-0 Weight: 335
College: Northern Illinois
Experience: 13 seasons

Thomas, 35, missed the first half of the 2008 season after hurting his triceps in training camp. He made seven tackles in the Saints' final eight games.

Thomas came to the Saints in a draft-day trade with the Philadelphia Eagles in 2006 and has made 100 tackles with 6.5 sacks and a fumble recovery in his three seasons in New Orleans.

In a statement released by the team, Saints coach Sean Payton called Thomas "a significant presence" both on the defensive line and in the locker room and that he was "a big part of what we have accomplished here."

The Saints released another veteran defensive tackle, Brian Young, on Tuesday.

Thomas, a 13-year NFL veteran, spent his first 10 seasons with the Eagles.

Not if u have to sign ur rookies, he's 35 therefore they really didn't want to extend him.... He would be good for a solid stop gap player on a 1 maybe 2 year deal...

The Saints cut two tackles that played for them last year, Thomas and Bryan Young. That leaves them pretty thin with Demario Pressley (injured last year), Rod Coleman and our old Remi Ayodele in addition to Sedrick Ellis.

If he was worth his salary, they probably would have kept him.

Yeah, I think he's about done. I don't think he's done much of anything at New Orleans.

Besides, wasn't he a quickness guy who just ballooned up? He looks like most of that 335 is fat.

I was just reading about Bryan Young. He was told he'd be released but was asked to stick around/stay with the team because they value his leadership and worth ethic (and i guess they hope it rubs off on other guys), until he returns from injuries for the 2010 season.

Age and having been injured a good portion of last year are good reasons why they let him go.
