Someone in the 213 just turned one of California's most recognizable landmarks into a big endorsement for 420.

Los Angeles residents woke up on New Year's Day to the sight of the iconic "Hollywood" sign having been transformed into "Hollyweed," the work of an apparent prankster. Social media users quickly noticed the howler, and took to Twitter to express their surprise and bemusement.

That's crazy. I hadn't heard this. I live about 4 miles from Griffith Park (where the sign is located), and have hiked to the sign numerous times. It's an easy, 45 minute hike from the base of the hill it sits on. East hike for my little guy, too, as it's mostly horse trail to the top. Same with the Observatory.

You can't get close to it, there a fence partition behind it (that everyone puts locks on with their name and their girlfriend's name on -- kinda cool, but I digress). The fence sits about 25 yds behind it, so I can see someone climbing over and getting to it. There's a helipad at the top for the park rangers/Sherrifs dept. Lots of cameras, too. I guess, if anything, it shows those agencies were slipping/not expecting this sort of vandalism.

This is somewhat funny, but mostly messed up. Being a local, that sign is part of the community, especially if you spend time at Griffith Park.
