Well, I'm glad we at least got Romo, Ratliff, and Crayton done so far . . . .

Price inflation!

Bob is a beast who can hit, cover and has 4.3 speed. If he was taller than 5'8, he would have been a high first round pick instead of going in the 2nd.

Sources: Sanders signs for five years, $37.5 million
By Chris Mortensen
ESPN.com

Colts safety Bob Sanders has signed a five-year, $37.5 million contract with Indianapolis that includes $20 million in guaranteed money, according to NFL sources.

The contract makes Sanders, 26, the highest-paid safety in the NFL.

The Pro Bowl selection, whose playoff performance sparked the Colts on their run to a Super Bowl victory last season, would have been an unrestricted free agent after this season. Sanders is a strong contender for this year's NFL Defensive Player of the Year honors.

The Colts have doled out record contracts before to other top players. Before the start of training camp, Dwight Freeney signed a $72 million, six-year deal, making him the league's highest-paid defensive end. The contract included a $30 million signing bonus.

After the 2003 season, quarterback Peyton Manning agreed to what was then a record $99.2 million, seven-year contract that contained a still-record $34.5 million signing bonus.

Sanders' signing is significant because Colts tight end Dallas Clark, who is having a career year, is a unrestricted free agent after this season. Getting Sanders signed now means that if Indianapolis can't reach agreement with Clark on a new deal, they'll have the option of using the franchise tag to retain him for 2008.

Chris Mortensen covers the NFL for ESPN. ESPN.com senior NFL writer Len Pasquarelli contributed to this story.

Is there a clause in his contract that they get a greatly reduced rate when he is injured?

Guy is a heck of a player but seems that the injury bug is always biting him.

i agree. the man spends a lot of time in the tub.

Sanders gets almost as much in guaranteed money ($20 mil) as Roy Williams received in his entire five-year extension ($25.2 mill) last year.

He's the most overrated player in the NFL. And this signing bonus is just laughable.

If anything, his lack of height helps him (on the field anyway). He's said so himself.

But Bob deserves it. Roy is stealing.

That seems entirely too high for a safety.
I agree, but Bob is the best at what he does so its only right that he gets treatd like the best. Obviously like everyone said, his only weakness is his lack of staying healthy. But we have that same problem with T-New and I wouldnt trade him for any CB in the league right now.

Funny. I'm sure similar words were spoken when a particular safety signed a contract in Dallas a few years ago...
