Campo's contract is up.

Clearly, JJ and Campo have quite a bit of history, as do Garrett and Campo most likely (during the Super Bowl days of the 90s).

Do Garrett and R Ryan blame him for the lack of secondary success, or do they blame the players (Newman, Walker and Ball who are JAGs)? (or maybe both the coach and players?)

I know nearly everyone on this Board hopes that Campo is gone. But the question is whether Garrett and R Ryan move in another direction?

I think Houck's situation is a bit easier in that he appears ready for retirement. But I don't think Campo is looking to retire yet.

I really don't have an idea of what either Garrett or Ryan think of Campo's teaching/coaching ability. I think he was the coach last year because Garrett couldn't get the Secondary coach who he wanted (I think he went to Arizona instead).

This year, Garrett/Ryan probably will have more guys who they can bring in for the job if they want to go in that direction.

One thing I hope to see is Garrett continue to tweak his coaching roster. No coach should feel like their job is safe after this season.

He's going to keep Campo. If Garrett didn't want Dave Campo, he would have gotten rid of him when he brought in Ryan.

db and safety coach should not be back in dallas. I swear its like our secondary is allegeric to making plays. You heard jenkins said that he went back to the things he use to do instead of the new things he was doing(last season) and he did pretty good this year (even though he was injured alot). But he wasn't the one getting abused like newman and scandy. Newman and scandy has no ball skills what so ever.

I don't think they wanted to keep Campo last year. I am pretty sure that Rob wanted someone he has coached with before but they were unavailable at the time so they stayed with campo.

I think if Campo stays, it is only because they could not find someone else they wanted.

Posted this in the scandrick thread but here's my issue with Campo. You gotta watch this video. Campo is telling Scandrick not to watch the ball. You can see Scan start to argue with him....

Good speech by Garrett but listen to Campo getting on Scandric around the 50 second mark.....

That's what I was led to believe as well.

This is brought up in every Campo thread but no one seems to understand they did try to bring in someone better :banghead:

An article from Todd Archer yesterday says something different. It stated Houck wants to remain "if he is wanted".

This year, Garrett/Ryan probably will have more guys who they can bring in for the job if they want to go in that direction.

And there is a good chance they do not. I do not think it is Ryan's say in the least. The opportunity has to be given by Garrett to do so. The only hope I have is the fact we did at least consider Horton last year.

They had one option in Horton and it really would have been a lateral move. That is really not a strong effort. It was no better than trying to get Matthews to play understudy to Houck for a year. Most coaches worth anything will want the higher paying job and the title.

you cant fire half your team and let crappy coaches stay.
If anyone can, we can with the illogical way we go about things sometimes.

lets just say if they do extend campo they are not serious about winning.

Why? I am sure someone will pop in here to say that Dave Campo is a good coach eventually to set you straight.

I think this time around there won't be any Campo takers on Cowboyszone. Of course, maybe I'm too optimistic . . . .

No way. I'm obviously not a big RJ fan, but not even I think he'd bring Campo back when his contract is up anyway.

But that part about Houck scares me. He is Garrett's "best friend in coaching", after all.

So which assistant coaches dont get new contracts and who is replacing them?

Todd Archer

I can't say who replaces them because I don't know who is available from other teams. Jason Garrett will have tough personal decisions to make on Hudson Houck and Dave Campo. He's known those guys for awhile but the Cowboys biggest areas of concerns last year were the O-line and secondary and they remain the concerns this year. I can give you one name - I'd do what I could to bring Tony Sparano back. Well, I'll give you a second name but again I don't know if he's available - Cleveland secondary coach Jerome Henderson. The Browns wouldn't let him come with Ryan last year.
