If you guys were the GM and you were to give Romo a contract right now, how would it look?

or better yet, what do you think Jerry would give him, and what you think he deserves?

I know Crazycowboy might come in and say something like 7 years 200Mil, with a 60 million Bonus:D...j/p

I know the longer we wait, the more it's going to be. So long as he keeps throwing up numbers like he has been, that is.

I personally would wait till the entire season is over. I wouldn't want this to be a distraction in the middle of the season. If he leads us to the NFC Conference Game, we can use Brees contract as a negotiating starting point. I would be willing to pay more than that, but he should not get Big 3 and McNabb money. Actually wait, I think Brady took a huge paycut for the team.

$70 million Max I would say. I'd hope for $60 million.

I'm no good at this stuff, but he'd get at least a $75 million deal from me. I'd want to make sure he is here for the long haul.

The Cowboys can Franchise him the next 2 years at 7-8 million a year but that doesnt mean they want to do that, its an option though.

Franchising players makes them unhappy. That is not a great move.

Hos has it right. Bulger got 6 years at 65 mill with about 27 mill guaranteed.

Romo is 3 years younger. Before the season started, I would have guessed Bulger numbers. Now, I'd say 7 years 75 million with 30 mill guaranteed is going to be the ballpark.

Short answer - whatever he wants.

The contract is going to be enormous. Prepare yourselves for a 60-80 mil deal, maybe more.

A lot of teams are willing to give up two No.1s for a young Franchise QB. Ravens/Bears come to mind.

I think we may pay for it in the long run, but it was a smart move to not pay him last offseason. We probably could have saved a few bucks, but who is to say Romo wouldn't then be unhappy with the deal after having a big year. I want Romo here and happy. Look at what underpaying a guy did to TO in Philly. Now look at TO when he is getting his money.

What would I give Romo? Maybe my first born.

Absolutely dead on! That's what I would think, you can't jerk Romo around and try to low ball him because he is the new "face" of the 'Boys. He has earned the confidence and respect from his team and any attempt by the FO to "negotiate" a better deal to their advantage will be seen by the team as a negative.

Yeah, you can hardline a player, but QB is NOT the position to do so....7 to 8 years at 75 to 80 million with 30 mil guaranteed is probably the figure.
In this case, Tony has earned it.....how many rookie QBs get these huge contracts (Russell, Quinn) before taking a single snap?

You can also say that Romo will be looking at a ton of endorsement deals just like Peyton.......plus something that Peyton does not have---the Hispanic market. HMMMMMMM.

Anyone know what the top 10 QB contracts are?... that are out there now?

I think Romo should end up somewhere in the #5-7 range(of the top 10).

Its like Bill Parcells said... he didnt have to be highest paid coach... just up there with the best of them

i think 7 years 77 mil with around 28 mil up front. thats in the range of the bulger deal. bulger has done it for years so even though romo is playing better he has done it for less time.
i would do it this year so we can use some of the excess cap space we have to lessen the future effects.
and if i was seriously looking at a rb in the 1st rnd next year i would see what it would take to extend mb3 now too.get it done before he see's another guy coming to share the load with

Top 5 QB money is closer to 12 million per, not 7 or 8.

Romo right now is in the 75-80 million range for 7 years...Jerry keeps waiting and we will be looking at 100 million.

Romo is only making half or less of what the backup QB Brad Johnson is making. Jerry should have made this right during the off season, but for some reason he chose not to. Now Romo is starting for the Cowboys for the 2nd year and is being paid like someone who walks around with a clipboard.

Now Romo is rocketing towards free agency, and I'm sure he is resenting the fact that he is one of the best QB's in the NFL and is being paid chump change.

I think this is going to get real expensive or real ugly - not much room for anything in the middle.

Here's what I would do:

8 years @ $85mil $35mil guaranteed
$20mil upfront signing bonus
$10mil roster bonus 2009
$5mil roster bonus 2010

Why try to play hardball... Tony wants to be here and he strives to get better at playing football not just making money. We spent 7 years trying to find a QB.... NOW we have one... Let's lock him up till retirement.
