Its obvious why we bent over backwards to get Gurode.
He can play center and guard, and he isn't too expensive. He also has experience playing on our line.
It simply allowed us to not have to go and sign two more players to replace him.
Same reason why I hope we signed Kosier. Bill likes versatile linemen. Especially for depth. Why do you think we kept vollers for so long?
There is going to be a competition for left guard and right tackle most likely.
Kosier vs gurode
and
kosier vs fabini
I think Kosier is the cost of Tucker, and the backup right guard we SHOULD have had.
Gurode is the cost of the backup center we should have had, and the backup right guard we should have had. You split the cost of the right guard towards Kosier, and you have 3 low end salaries...
kosier = 15 million dollars over 5 years including a 5 million dollar signing bonus
so in other words 3 million a year.
Gurode signed a 1 year deal with for 1.5 million dollars including a 500k dollar signing bonus.
So the total between Gurode and kosier can be thought of as 4.5 million dollars for year 1 (i know that kosier isn't getting 3 million this year though).
So 4.5 million dollars divided by RT, LG, C = 1.5 million per position...
Hardly that much money... even for depth...
consider kosier can play LT, LG, RG, RT... and gurode can play LG, C, RG...
It makes a little more sense as to why they paid Kosier so much money.
If 1.5 million dollars is the price for 3 positions, 2 million is the price for 4 positions.
Then deduce that since gurode only has a 1 year deal, his signing bonus is effectively part of his base salary. Kosier is given 5 million more because they signed him to a 5 year deal...
I still think he is going to be depth in the beginning. So I still hope we sign someone else.
