The Dallas Cowboys are not very good right now. You can complain all you want about coaching, but this is not a talented team losing because of coaching.
OL, strength of the team last year.....right now average at best. It's hard for any OL to replace two starters in one year, even harder to do it on the best line in football and expect to continue dominance. Having three pro bowlers doesn't equate to chemistry, trust, and fast play. Get to 4-4, and hopefully this unit will be better second half.
WRs are what they are. A team with Dez and Williams was led last year by Beasley, and teams seem to have found a way to take him away. Dak is going to be fine, but he missed several open receivers on third down today, Dez 2-3 times. Zeke is understandably not as focused....he seems to be running into contact and missing some daylight, but that OL is a crapshoot.
You replaced 2 CBs and 2 safeties who were key players...that's a lot of overhaul in the secondary, and you're dealing with injuries and youth, plus first time starters.
You lost your starting MLB in preseason, and Jaylon Smith is struggling. Struggling at MLB is not good for your defense. Then you lose Lee, your defensive star.
These are not excuses, just facts. The Cowboys are definitely over-rated and not nearly as talented across the board as last year. A little too young and too injured right now.
If we can get to the halfway mark at 4-4, we can hope the injured guys return, the youngsters improve, and the OL settles in and gels together for a playoff push.
I'll close right now saying I never liked the Collins to RT move when we didn't provide for LG. We could cover for anyone at RT, just as we did for Free, but I liked LT-LG-C-RG continuity. Now we have Smith trying to figure out what's going on beside him, and C-RG is a 2 position comfort zone instead of 4 guys from left to right had we left Collins at LG.
The first half of the season is going to be a dogfight. The good news is had Beckham been healthy for NY and a couple plays gone differently last week, we'd be 0-4 right now. The Cowboys are not solid in any phase of the game, not dominate at any position group. But baring other devastating injuries, this team should be much better in November. Hitchins, Lee, and Irving will improve the defense, and the OL should improve.
