A few years ago late fall I fired up the woodstove for the first time since spring. A few minutes later I saw a wasp. Killed it but noticed another, then another and another and so on and so forth.

Turns out they had hived up in the wall behind the stove getting in through a crack where the chimney stack exited right behind the stove. The heat livened them up and they followed the heat to find a crack to get in the house.

That was not a fun evening.

Reminds me of the hornet scene in Case 39. I won't post the video since it's a little graphic, but youtube has it (of course).

I watched something like this before I believe on the Discovery channel and it was 5 hornets wiping out a hive.

It's so good, I actually have to cast doubt on it's authenticity. In some cases, it seems as though a camera is placed on a bees head while a hornet directly attacks it. The panning and zooming around in some scenes is also a bit too much to be true.

It's so good, it's impressive even if fake.

I read somewhere a while back that overall bees account for 25% of the food we (humans) eat, directly or indirectly. The percentages are much higher in some countries.
