Horse Collar tackle... Whats the Rule?

Roy had the jersey not the pads. If he did have the pads he would have been called for it since it's his rule.

For the horse collar to be called, the defender has to grab inside the collar of the shoulder pads (not the jersey) from behind and immediately yank the runner down.

It's getting to the point where anytime a player even grabs inside the back of the jersey collar, the announcers (hint: Troy Aikman) start crying about the horse collar not being called, even if the second part of the rule never happens.

Roy didn't immediately yank the runner down, though, so it wouldn't (shouldn't) have been called anyway.

Especially if Roy is the one doing the tackling. They didn't question Plaxico's tackle on Glenn. Similar play.

that's an excellent description...Why can't the commentators articulate this?

I know. Sometimes you wonder what they are watching they miss so many obvious points.

Of course I watched that ESPN college game they did last year when you could hear everything the producers were saying in the announcers' headsets and it was maddening! I couldn't think with all that constant jabber in my ears. Maybe that distracts them at times and they miss the obvious points.

I don't know how any of those guys are able to do their jobs. I couldn't concentrate on saying the right thing, choosing the right angle, focusing the camera in the right area or whatever else because I just enjoy watching football too much. I tried watching a game and posting on the game day thread once. It was too much to do for me. I like to be able to just watch and enjoy.
