If by some miracle Jerry moved the team to Houston; and seeing a huge void in the Dallas market, Houston's owner moved his team to Dallas, i.e. the current Cowboys becoming the Houston Texans and the current Texans becoming the Dallas Cowboys, are you still rooting for "The Dallas Cowboys" ?

Answer: Yes, but conditionally.

There is a similar but not exact comparison. Cleveland Browns' owner Art Modell moved his franchise to Baltimore, but the city of Cleveland sued to retain the team's name and historical records. Baltimore did not have a franchise to move to Cleveland in the 'swap' at the time, which makes what happened in reality different from the hypothetical.

I will take the liberty of using what happened and morphing it to fit this what-if. I would continue rooting for the Dallas Cowboys IF the city of Dallas (and/or Arlington) sued Jerry Jones and successfully retained the name and historical rights. In that modified what if, the Joneses exit and the franchise simply gets a cosmetic makeover.

I have always been about the franchise. That is why I frequently refer to Dallas in my posts as a franchise rather than as a team. Teams change from season to season. Different players. Sometimes different coaches, but the franchise is eternal.

HOWEVER, I will immediately quit being a Dallas Cowboys if Jones got his way. The Houston Texans' history is not the history I recognize or respect. So. Adios.

That would be weird. The talk in Toronto for years has been the NHL adding a 2nd team here, as the market would support it, but Buffalo gets mad because many Canucks travel across the board because it's much easier getting tickets. Then some argue, Toronto doesn't have a real NHL team, soooooo.
