Zeke defenders, tell me why you don’t believe he is in an inescapable downturn. I understand the OL is banged up but how does that excuse the drops and fumbles? Also, he has lost almost all his burst. Guy signed a big contract and doesn’t appear to be in great shape. Now they are staring at a rebuild and you have that contract for an aging RB? How do you think this ends well?

Please. I want to understand the glass half filled story with Zeke. Thank you.

His blocking is also atrocious. At least slow guys down. Emmitt was so much better at blocking. Dalton Schultz, has nothing on Witten.

They need to step up somewhat and help this line.

Sorta Zeke related but not really. Bucky Brooks made a really good statement on players like Zeke, and how it’s affecting this team right now:

I don't even think Zeke is a "me" guy. I think he just flat out sucks right now. I've seen running backs go through these funks before and they can get out o them but I'm afraid this may be bigger than a funk for Zeke. This may be who he is at this point. Zeke was a result of a good offensive line. Very good running back earlier in his career and he's probably very good now but the contract just can't justify it.

good thing Stephen and Jerry blew their load to re-sign their guys though. Their guys are part of the problem

Yep..

We had a group of young guys that didn't know any better and all of a sudden after Jaylon Smith had 1 good season everyone became businessmen and forgot they were football players.

Winning isn't a priority for ownership or players.

Zeke is a hallmark of Jones inability to know when hold them and know when let them go. Jones fandom and fantasy football perspective have made it impossible for him to perform the basic duties of a GM.

The Jones's never get out of ahead of things.

At least we'll always have the memories of 2016 with Zeke.. Unfortunately we've let that 1 magical season destroy us for a decade.

Jerry signed Zeke to an extension because he wanted to believe Zeke was not deteriorating each year, but I think it was obvious he was, or is. You can see he no longer has the speed or burst he had as a rookie. He can't get to the outside like he once did. He needs gaping holes and even then he gets 10-12 yards. There is no more taking it to the house for Zeke. The most puzzling thing about him though is his blocking. He used to be an excellent blocker picking up blitzes. Yesterday he got run over a few times. That seems more like a focus issue. Maybe the whole team is infecting each other with softness.

Yes I should have mentioned the blocking. Zeke came into the league solid across the board including his ability to block. In 4 plus years the Dallas country club has ruined ANOTHER good player.

Zeke just is a natural, no matter how bad and he has been bad. To me, he’s a safe bet. He will bounce back. Nothing on this team is going good. Why would the running game?

They drafted Zeke as part of the plan to copy the 1992 Cowboys. Build a great OL with a dominant RB and have a stable of DL and everything will be just like the Jimmy days! The only problem is that it has become a passing league and Garrett is nowhere close to being Jimmy in terms of leadership/preparation and also building the defense.

Because they were so committed to that strategy, they gave Zeke a big contract in a league where a great individual RB is not a necessity anymore. Everything they spent the last 10 years building has been flawed and now we're paying for it big-time.

Good attempt. Have a look at the history of RBs in second contracts though. Zeke does not look like an anomaly.

“He will bounce back”
Been saying that since 2018. He hasn’t. He’s deteriorating at a record pace. The loss of his best friend has put him on a bad course and he’s not focused. AT ALL. In his defense, the rest of the team isn’t either, but still. He’s lost sense of who he is, now that his offensive line sucks and that his QB is out.

As a (former) Zeke fan.....I can't explain it. I've never seen such steep deep cliff from such a talented player.

Let it be known that I didn't like the holdout of the big paycheck, coming back out of shape....even though I would still defend him back then. Seems looking back that was the beginning of all this.

I should be shocked and very embarrassed about Zeke. The thing is...I'm so sick to my stomach about the entire affairs of the Cowboys....this barely registers. Is there ONE thing where I can at least go.."Well at least we got THAT"?

On the blocking. We have guys just standing around on plays. Guys just gave up. Why would they put effort into anything. Keyshawn said it best this morning. This team has “checked out” the coach most um.
