Concerns have centered on how well the Dallas Cowboys will fare offensively this season. No team duplicates its offensive and defensive successes or failures from season-to-season (unless its Detroit), but I thought it would be interesting to see how our scheduled '09 opponents' defense ranked last season. I've also included offseason transactions which could also impact how much each teams' defense could improve or regress.

Our entire division is without question the best defensively. I was surprised to see the Skins actually ranked pretty darn well - then I remembered why... Cause FELIX NEVER GOT THE BALL!!!!! Argggh!

How is the NFCE so defensively stout?

The whole East is a beast on D.

It looks like another rough December for our offense. I know New Orleans didn't have a very good defense last year, but they fired Gibbs and hired Williams, so I would expect the Saints to have at least a respectable defense this year.

Thanks for putting this up DallasEast.

Nice stuff. I expect the Eagles to take a step back this year. Johnson --hope he recovers-- is in serious health trouble and losing Dawkins is huge. Dawkins has great range and instincts but its the leadership on and off the field that will impact them most. We are probably going to see a lot more blown coverages and missed assignments then we have in past years.

I agree about New Orleans hiring Gregg Williams. The Saints did very well to shore up their porous defensive line and secondary with the departure of Hollis Thomas and Josh Bullocks. I've linked a few pages of the players who should upgrade their defense.

Jabari Greer
Paul Spicer
Roderick Coleman
Pierson Prioleau
Darren Sharper
Malcolm Jenkins
Chip Vaughn
Stanley Arnoux

Never would have thought Oakland and San Diego would be mirror images of each other.

Good point. Last season, the Raiders were strong versus the pass and locking down receivers, but were very poor on stopping the run. On the other hand, the Chargers were poor by getting thrown on alot, but were shutting down their opponents' rushing attack.

Oakland loaded up on defensive end/linebacker prospects through the draft to help strengthen their front seven. With Shawne Merriman's return, San Diego pash rush will rebound this season, but they are looking for additional depth and/or plug holes left by Igor Olshansky. Plus, they picked up a nice nickel corner prospect to defend in the slot.

The other half of the AFC West will not be a cakewalk late in the season in my opinion.

Looks like there could be some high scoring games. As someone posted here earlier this year, we go up against 10 of the top 11 offenses.

Could be exciting...in the heart palpitating, multiple td, down to the wire shootout mode.

Here's to Marion Barber's expolits in last 10 minutes!
