How about a little FB for Barber?

Thinking of Scandrick and the Star position as an attempt to get the best 11 guys on the field, why not some FB for Barber.

I'm not talking a legit full time shift here.

We all agree we have 3 good to very players at RB. Why not try to find a way to get 2 of them on the field together a little more often?

If you describe his game it reads like a FB. The guy loves contact and runs best north south between the tackles.

He only goes 220lbs but we know how strong he is. I bet he could lay some nice lead blocks.

Sell it to him as a way to get on the field for an additional 10-15 snaps a game and not a real position change. Allow him to remain the starter and still get 25-30 snaps as RB in a single back set or behind a true FB.

I don't think you would want to put Barber as a FB to lead block

but definitely draw some packages where the backfield is Barber at FB, and Felix Jones at RB, so the D doesn't know who is getting the ball, and plus you could then motion Felix into the slot if you wanted to, or toss a pitch to him while he's in motion, or a direct handoff to Barber to get him going, take advantage of his burst through the hole

hopefully this year Jason Garrett will get a little creative

They did this on a few occasions with Barber and Julius Jones, and it seems to me that each of them had some nice plays out of it.

If you want to put your best players on the field more often, they need to find a way to put Barber and Felix out there together some.

He has a good point. If your tryin to put all the best players on the field, then let Barber play FB and Felix at tailback.

That's what I'm talking about. Maybe a little split backs or T- formation.

I also think he could well as a lead blocker in the right situations. Maybe plays designed for him to lead against a smaller LB or even DB in a dime defense.

There have been a lot of successful undersized FBs. Its not just about bulk. Strength and quickness are key. He may not blow people up often as a lead blocker, but I bet he'd seldom whiff.

that's true, you can shield defenders from the ball-carrier too

I'm just saying I wouldnt' go to that formation just to have Barber lead block on a simple handoff, mix it up, confuse Ds too

Off the subject, but I liked how they used to run Moose once or twice a game. He would only get 2 or 3 yards and I always wondered why they did it, until I found out. Defenses never really knew if it was him or Emmitt getting the ball every hand off.

Please Jerry sign this guy. There aren't many Bears that I see in this draft for us due to Mack getting drafted before our pick and I don't think that any of the LB's fit our scheme.

We need more lunchpail types on this team. Also when you reward him with a ball or two he won't let you down.

Good catcher, great run blocker, but can he protect the passer in passing downs?
All his highlights are catching the ball or blocking for the HB.
