How about a RB in round 2?

If Toby Gerhart is available?

The guy can flat out play. And if we jettison Barber, he would be great value in round two.

I know we have FJ and Choice but we don't know what the long term is on Felix as far as health is concerned and Choice still hasn't been asked to carry the load.

Anyway, just thought I would see what folks thought.

Dosen't make sense IMO. Let's say we do trade Barber and get a 5th if lucky for him.

Then draft an RB in the 2nd as you suggest.

What has happend; Barber and a 2nd, have been traded for a 3rd string RB and a 5th. Not a good move when RB's are a dime a dozen.

Thanks for putting that so succinctly.

Even assuming Gerhart can "flatout play", he's not better than Felix or Choice. Zero need for a running back, and if we get one it will likely be in the late rounds with a guy who can help on special teams.

If we draft an RB in the 2nd rd Barber is gone.

Well, he was runner up for the Heisman and was a standout at a top program.

And as I said, we may be closer to needing a RB than we think if Felix continues to get hurt and Choice can't carry the load. And who's to say he couldn't contribute on special teams?

And he may be the steal of the draft.

One of my favorite players in the draft, but not sure there's a place for him right now.

Why can't Choice carry the load? By the way, the "load" will probably be 15+ carries, 20 carries max. I'm amazed that people want Felix to start, but Choice can't carry the load. It's like some people forget who ends up on the injury report and who doesn't.

RB's may be a dime a dozen but not ones like Gerhart. Have you seen this guy play? Trade Barber and draft Gerhart, the guy is a stud and will prove it where ever he goes. A backfield of Choice, Jones and Gerhart would be lethal.

If we can drop Barber I'd be all for it. Gerhart is a freaking beast.

I'd say its extremely doubtful, even if they traded Barber beforehand.

They'd still have two really good backs in Jones/Choice, and those guys will get most of the work if Barber isnt here. If they trade Barber I would guess they'll take a RB at some point, but I'd think it would be later in the draft.

Gerhart or Tate would both be nice picks, but I think both will go too early for us to consider them.

If the Cowboys trade Barber they would need a physical back to pick up the tough inside yards. They certainly don't want to be banging Felix in those situations with his injury issues and Choice hasn't shown he can do it. If Barber is traded expect the Cowboys to add another back.

I'd take a guy like Ben Tate late in the draft. Not with what used to be a first day pick.

It's hard for me to agree that Choice hasn't shown he can do it, when he hasn't been given the chance.

He hasn't been given the chance but the times he has run inside he hasn't shown the ability to move the pile. He uses his vision like Felix to find cracks and seams. If he could do it I think the Cowboys would have tried him last season when they were having so much trouble picking up a much needed yard. If Barber is moved we need a back who can move a pile when there's nothing there on those 3rd and short situations or nearing the goalline. A back with some real size who we can pound at defenses in the 4th quarter like we were doing with Barber prior to 08.

I'd love Gerhart on the team but in the second is IMO bad value for a RB that's gonna be 3rd on the depth chart. I say if he falls to the 4th then I'd go for it. Otherwise if you get rid of Barber and can get a 4th or a 5th then I'd pick up LaGarrette Blount in the late 5th or 6th.

no thanks...I don't want a RB in rounds 2 or 3 no matter what happens to MBIII. We have a starter and a qualitiy backup in Felix and Choice...we've also carried a guy on the PS the past two years who may be ready for action. If not, pick up another RB in rounds 4,5,or 6.

We're going to address DB, OL, ILB, and WR in this draft, perhaps with more than one at DB and OL.

I also think we should not forget that Brewster is hopefully ready for backup duty at OT or OG.
